Fallout 4 Review – Bethesda Improves the Series to Near Perfection
twinfinite.net ^ | Ishmael Romero

When you first step into the harsh sunlight that greets every wanderer, you begin a mission. You must recover something that was taken from you; but with no understanding of the world as it currently exists, you must turn to its inhabitants.

At the same time, they are turning to you. You are a savior of sorts, one born from unknown depths and just so happens to have what it takes to help the people. Like all Fallout games in the past, this is where Fallout 4 excels.

You have the freedom to go and do as you please (for the most part). Within that free space, you can help or ignore others as you see fit. These choices comes with a price, though, as they always do.

...

You have other ways of interacting with the people and world, as well. The most notable of these are the settlements you can establish out in the Commonwealth. These bases will serve as storehouses, workshops, and bastions for people you save....Hard work is rewarded for those who take part in rebuilding the Wasteland, but this duty is never forced on you.

...

Enemy AI has gotten quite the bump. They’ll flank, use cover, expose weaknesses, and they have some seriously good aim. More often than not, I found myself forced to be quick on my feet thanks to overconfidence and diving into situations I had absolutely no right to enter. Variety among large groups of enemies is also improved. Snipers, brawlers, suicide bombers, beasts, grenadiers, and more will constantly challenge, using the environment and their equipment to the best of their advantage.

I will not get this game until I have the next book out and am back from Europe in January. Then I will revel in a week long Fallout 4 festival.

Proceed at your own Caution, I am trying to remain spoiler free, for it might be sometime before I actually get to play Fallout 4.

War May Never Change, but Fallout does and sounds like for the better.

If I am able to spend half the hours playing Fallout 4
that I did playing Skyrim, it will still be a monster.

Yeah,

Fallout New Vegas is the Best Game I have played in the last Ten Years.

And also the Buggiest.

I crashed ALL The Damn time, and that was on a Xbox 360!

It harkens back to the days of Knights of the Old Republic II and Obsidian's Bugginess with that game.

Since it's not time to go full upgrade yet I bought a GTX 970 and 12 GB of G-Skill Sniper ram for Fallout 4.

Tried GTA 5 and it looks gorgeous but wow it's a bad game, the open world is great but the controls suck and the story..., we'll end it there.

So I'm doing Skyrim again full bore this time, looks absolutely stunning in parts but sometimes yuck, still if I do a mostly complete run through I'll be ready for Fallout 4 sometime in the new year. Did F3 and FNV earlier this year.

Not to give away my age (LOL) but I bought the grandaddy post-nuke game Wasteland when it first came out, for dialog it would refer you to a page and paragraph in a book that came in the box. We've come a long way with fully voiced dialog.

You can buy the original Wasteland on Steam now (probably some other places as well). I have the original package with the 5 1/4 floppy for the C-64 for Wasteland.

My head hurts. KC, please kill all members of your generation. With fire. Then scatter the ashes. Perferably in space.

GOG has it with Wasteland 2 Digital Classic, the re-release has added the dialog in-game.

The version of Wasteland I had was the DOS version. That box is long gone but I still have the original Ultima 6, 7 and both Ultima Underworlds in their boxes with all the goodies.

I see where my GTX 660 Ti falls
mid-range in requirements, which is a relief.

LA Noir began and ended my Rockstar experience. I hve three years in Skyrim thanks to mods. When Beth graces us with Elder Scrolls 6, I will buy another game. Exception being Persona 5 for PS3 because I love that series.

I know what Bethesda makes and I’m good with what modding adds to it. I have not seen anything that has genuinely interested me on the PC since Fallout/Oblivion. Most of it seema a ripoff of one or the other.

Red Dead Redemption looked great but “Rockstar”. I got Bioshock with my Radeon card but the controls sucked there too.

Farcry Blood Dragon LOOKED awesome. Controls again.

Wasteland was awesome. I only liked sci-fi rpgs ... Never got into the D&D type though I loved Ultima.

My Fallout 4 Pip Boy edition is arriving tomorrow. I have too much work to do before I even think of installing it. I bought that remake of Pirates 10 years ago and played it almost 72 hours straight in between contracts. Once I got a new job, I had to uninstall it ... I have no self control when it comes to great games :-) (don’t even ask about my pinball collection)
