40 Greatest Hits (Hank Williams, Sr. album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
40 Greatest Hits
Greatest Hits is a two-record greatest hits compilation by American singer-songwriter Hank Williams. It was released in 1978 by Mercury Records â who under PolyGram became responsible for the MGM tape vault â on the 25th year anniversary of Williams' death. Significantly, it was the first anthology in quite some time that did not subject Williams' recordings to either rechanneled stereo, posthumous overdubs, artificial duets with family members (like his son Hank Jr.), or most or all of the above. Because of both this, and the value-for-money attraction of having a deeper song selection than previous single-disc compilations issued previously by MGM Records, many reviewers consider this anthology to be the perfect starting point for newcomers to Williams' recorded legacy. The album remains, to this day, the best-selling record of Williams' career.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 94 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

I already have it. Great stuff. He was an inspiration to artists from all over the spectrum.
I grew up in the suburbs of Boston...a place where country music is almost unknown. But Hank’s Jambalaya, today, has to be one of my all time favorites...right up there with Gimme Shelter,All Along The Watchtower and Universal Soldier.
When my wife (from Philly) and I (from Texas) got married, she asked me what kind of music my parents listen to. I put on my cassette of Hank Williams for her. She lasted about 20 seconds and said, “Oh God! turn that off!”
She’s since come around and can tolerate Hank for a song now and then.
Wife divorced ank for shooting at her... His response was fair enough, i don’t want to be married to a woman i have to shoot at.
Several weeks ago we attended the Jason Petty tribute to Hank Williams. In the 90’s he played Hank for years off Broadway and won an Obie. He even looks like Hank and, of course, sounds like him. It was great! Lots of interesting stories about him too.
There is a movie coming out soon about Hank Williams with Tom Hiddleston starring.
