What would Halloween weekend be without a spooky movie or two? Young Miss Giddens (Deborah Kerr) is hired to be governess for a pair of orphaned children by a wealthy, but emotionally distant uncle (Michael Redgrave). All seems well at first, but Miss Giddens begins to suspect something may be very wrong at the manor, and with the children...

Kerr is excellent in this first-rate adaptation of Henry James' novella "The Turn of the Screw." Psychological horror is always scarier than buckets of blood and gore, IMHO. 8/10

The studio called it “The Innocents” because of the double meaning behind the word “screw.”

I didn’t know that. It makes sense, though. Thanks for the info!

One of the most frightening movies ever. The scene where she sees Myles and sister in the garden still gives me chills. Is she crazy or is something supernatural going on here? Nicole Kidman made a pretty good version, too.

I agree. Blood and guts...not so scary.

Psychological...major scary and creepy.

That being said, this is a very good movie.

I thought “The Turn of the Screw” fell rather flat because of the premise that the late governess was an evil person because she *egad!* had a thing with a man from a *gasp!* lower social class.
