While Landry’s coaching had gone downhill, he was still a living legend, and up to then had been the only head coach in Cowboy history. It would have been nice if Jerry had allowed Landry to retire in a year or two after on his own terms. But wasn’t meant to be.
Yep. I was there. Chopper full of Jones henchmen came in, called Landry off the course, fired him and flew off. In two years of working at that golf course, that was the one time I saw Coach Landry mad. He deserved better.
