* Dems are against any emerging threat to their gov’t entitlement dependency racket. However, looking back, can you imagine the damage to people’s SS retirement funds and future that Wall Street could have wrecked if they had their hooks into SS funds? Taxpayer bailout bonanza.
I thought putting forward an ownership society, reducing dependence on ME oil, and (as you say) begining to invest in alternative vehicles with SS money were all great ideas that could have been part of GWB’s legacy.

Republicans are usually not innovative and squander their time in office and opportunity for legacy. Dems and liberals obfuscate unless Republicans sponsor a big bad gov’t idea like No Child Left Behind.
Why the Bush people and the RNC allowed them to get away with it is beyond me. Very infuriating.
