STUDY: MORE THAN TWO-THIRDS OF PATIENTS ON ANTI-DEPRESSANTS NOT DEPRESSED
Breitbart ^ | 23 Oct 15 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 10/24/2015 1:32:01 PM PDT by Signalman

A new study shows that more than two-thirds — some 69 percent – of patients using anti-depressants do not actually meet the criteria for depressive disorder.

The study, which appears in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, finds that many individuals who are prescribed and take antidepressant medications may not actually have a depressive disorder, and that such drugs are often used by patients who do not meet the diagnostic criteria of depression.

According to the research, among the users of antidepressant medications, 69 percent never met the diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD), and 38 percent also never met those for obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, or generalized anxiety disorder – for which the antidepressant medications are sometimes prescribed.

Other factors, however, unrelated to depression, were found to be associated with the use of antidepressants.

“Caucasian ethnicity, recent or current physical problems (eg, loss of bladder control, hypertension, and back pain), and recent mental health facility visits were associated with antidepressant use in addition to mental disorders,” say the researchers.

As Breitbart News previously reported, psychiatrist Dr. Julie Holland penned an op-ed in the New York Times earlier this year in which she cited that at least one of every four women in America is now on psychiatric medication, as opposed to one of every seven men, a situation Holland described as “insane.”

Holland observed that women are emotional and sensitive by design – qualities that are generally “a sign of health, not disease.”

According to Holland, “women are nearly twice as likely to receive a diagnosis of depression or anxiety disorder than men are.” Her concern is that the uptick in prescriptions for psychiatric medications is “creating a new normal, encouraging more women to seek chemical assistance.”

Holy sh*t! This is worse than I thought.
I wonder what percentage of them are liberals.

Anybody who isn’t depressed with the Administration is definitely sick and in desperate need of medication. /s

With all these multiple murders taking place. It’s my feeling that certain drugs are involved that create very very bad side effects. The connection is not guns but the type of drugs these people are taking.

Back in 2008 I was going through some tough times, and my doctor asked me if I was depressed. I told him, “Doc, I’m making half of what I was a few years ago, I’m going through a foreclosure and a bankruptcy, and my wife is talking about getting a divorce. I’d have to be crazy not to be depressed!”

He agreed. And no, I didn’t start taking any meds.

my mother in law had polio as a child and walks with a pronounced limp....in her mid 80’s, she’s broken her hip on the limp side three times, had to go to rehab and came through like a trooper...the last time it happened, a few years ago, was during the holidays...she was upset and they gave her an “anti-depressant” which made her twice as depressed and twice as cuckoo...those things can be BAD NEWS!!!

So this means that, on average, about 1 out of every 5 drivers on the road is on some kind of pyschotropic medication.

Beam me up Scotty.

In the last couple of years before my father died from Alzheimers Disease, my mother asked her doctor about anti-anxiety medications. Her doctor told her that wine was a better choice: it’s easier to cut back on drinking than to get off psychiatric drugs.

There are more than 15 million people walking around on mind altering prescription drugs. Think about that...and zombies.

According to Holland, “women are nearly twice as likely to receive a diagnosis of depression or anxiety disorder than men are.”""""""...........

Women know this, and it is not just Liberals. I know a lot of conservative woman who always seem depressed for some reason. Maybe it is to get attention, I don't know, but some I think just like to visit their Drs.

I know some who even take their DOGS to the dog shrink. No kidding. A discussion about their poor depressed poochie is a hoot, these idiot women are serious as a heart attack about that.

This is main reason I never want a WOMAN president.

Taking fish oil can help a lot with mood and brain health in general.

Also, hormones can affect women in some very interesting and dramatic ways:

Caucasian identity is associated with taking SSRIs? Has it helped anyone remove the odious pallor from their complexion yet?

The first sign of depression is writing a story about depression

Your estimate may be a bit low, in my opinion...

If there were zombies-real ones like the current movie and TV fad-as a former case manager, I’d still be more afraid of the people on the psychotropic drugs-I’ve never had to deal with a zombie, but I’ve had to interact with people spaced on everything from paxil to valium at work, and it was enough to make me decide to change careers about 13 years ago...

The company I worked for required that we refer injured clients who claimed depression, panic episodes, anxiety, etc only to psychotherapists who provided therapy, and not drugs-because a scrip for mind altering drugs was what they were after-not any real help-and that was just the ones I didn’t have to go to a nearby prison to visit every two weeks...

I knocked out the menopause symptoms I had with herbal remedies and soy protein, and never did have the ones like depression and panic-I think that was healthier than taking something unnatural and potentially dangerous.
