A fine example of why oil/gas are not “fossil fuels.”

They are continuously produced by the earth, under extreme pressure and temperature, and find their way to the surface.

If the earth wasn’t spewing carbon then eventually we would run out as dead plants and animals burried would lock up so much carbon that plants would starve.

Just the opposite.

These only occur in sedimentation laid down in oceans and other large bodies of water. It is from the organics decomposing in the still shallow sediment. They are not found deep in the soils, earth or rocks.

Lots of hydrocarbons on the surface of Titan, one of Saturn’ moons. I don’t think there was plant life on that moon to make all of the hydrocarbons found there.
