When someone retires do they have to take medicare or can they purchase medical insurance otherwise? Is it less expensive to go with a private company?
I guess you can get commercial insurance, but will they take you? Pre-existing conditions and all that. I really don’t know.

I doubt that a 65 year old could find primary coverage that is 80/20 after approx. deductible of $150 is met, for a $105 month premium.
Unfortunately, am old enough (70) but will not participate willingly. Living means more than just being alive.
Medicare is insurance. You still pay for it. And the first time you have to have a stent that the hospital bills you forty thousand dollars for, I hope you’ll have been on medicare. It might make the difference between a future of living or just being alive.
Ah yes, unfortunately I do! Am planning on dropping that coverage though as it was taken out without my consent. I don’t plan to go into the hospital - if that happens without my consent then I will have no choice but if not, the choice will be mine. That is the way I want it to be.
Living can be a form of torture or a gift - when you get older, it seems to be more torture than anything else, especially so for those that may have to bear the cost. We all have a limited time here and it should not be a choice made lightly.
