Win Forever. That’s the catch phrase, ethos and inspirational book Pete Carroll left behind after his nine-year stint at USC ended in 2010. He resurrected the program back into college football’s elite and ever since USC has flailed in its attempts to chase those highs.

At the LA Coliseum on Thursday night, USC got another reminder of why it should have deviated from Uncle Pete’s coaching tree. As USC wheezed, sputtered and pre-snap retreated its way to a 17–12 loss to pedestrian Washington (3–2), the Trojan faithful saw up-close the coach they let slip away.

I thought at the time USC hiring Sark was a mediocre choice. The guy was not exactly lighting things up in Seattle.

If you are a Texas fan, it is even worse. So far Charlie is getting paid $5 million per win, and that win is against perennial loser Rice.

He will still get $ 5 million per win after this weekend’s loss to OU and have the distinction of being coach of the worst start in UT history at 1-5.

Darrell Royal inherited an Ed Price coached team that went 1-9 NS 0-6 in conference and immediately the next year went 6-4-1 and to the Sugar Bowl.

When A&M went to the SEC it was all over for the Longhorns - the Aggies and the other football schools were no longer under that burnt orange shadow, still great football in Texas but it has moved to TCU and Baylor, even my Red Raiders are looking better.
