‘Bike geeks are insane.’

They ARE! I live on an Ironman race route. All spring and summer we have to put up with those spandexed doofuses hogging the country roads.

And when the race is underway I cannot get to work - all of the roads I need to use are CLOSED; you can’t get there from here.

They’ve gotten that way. I rode, raced, and was in the bike business from the mid 70’s until the mid 90’s... my approach was to ride so cars didn’t have to slow down to get around me, or even think of me.

I’ve also had 3 cycling friends put in the ground by idiots, and it wasn’t their fault.

True.

But there are idiots who need their CDLs revoked and if the facts are as reported this was one.

A better solution for the bystander would have been to summons traffic enforcement to write the brain dead trucker a ticket so that his employer would know to fire him. In the medium and long run that makes the road safer.
