Wall Street pay exploded last year to a record high.

Average salaries, including bonuses, grew by 14% in 2014 to $404,800, according to a new report from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

After inflation, pay in 2014 was the third highest on record.

The average Wall Street salary was nearly six times that of the rest of New York City's private sector, where the average salary was $72,300 last year.

Bonuses were similar to their levels before the 2008 financial crisis.

The average bonus, up more than 50% over the past three years, was $172,900 last year, according to the report. The only years bonuses were higher were the two years leading up to the financial crisis.

RE: Sounds like a great place to work.

Make as much money as you can and be prepared to be laid off in a jiffy when the market goes south.

While people invested in the market are getting a “hair cut” Wall Street is giving pay increases.

Pro athletes and Hollywood actors pay also hit record highs but you don’t see anybody complaining about that.

A few years ago a teacher's union rep here in Michigan was trying to make the claim that it was unfair that teachers don't get paid as much as pro athletes. I agree if those teachers can throw a 100mph fastball across the plate consistently and do it while drawing 30 or 40 thousand people to come watch.

you get paid the amount that you are worth to the people who pay you....If,through your efforts, they make $5,000,000, then they can afford to pay you a very large salary. If, through your efforts, they make $50,000, your salary will reflect that reality.

Parasites. As a shareholder top executives essentially are seen as nothing but lampreys sucking off the company’s teat for their own self interest. Their high pay comes at our expense.

Of course. They and politicians have been gaming the system since the creation of the Federal Reserve.
