Two men have been charged after a college student said they forced him into a Winona warehouse and ordered him to take his clothes off while threatening him with a meat saw.
Winona officers were called to Second and Vine streets at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, on a report of an assault. Police say the victim was naked and was crying hysterically.
The victim said he’s a college student and was on the way back to his dorm room from a house party when he got lost and ended up on Laird Street. He said two men approached him and started yelling at him, and they brought him to a nearby warehouse building.
The victim said the two men made him strip naked and sit on a chair, and they asked him about things they believed he had stolen from them. The victim also said one of the men said something about “anally penetrating” him, according to the complaint.
The victim said he didn’t know if he would get out of the warehouse alive and that he was kept in the warehouse for about 30 minutes before he escaped and started yelling in the street for help.
The two suspects were later identified as 45-year-old John Arnold Demaske of Winona and 34-year-old Abdirhahman Hassan Samatar. They were found at the warehouse and arrested.
In an interview with police, Demaske disagreed with the victim’s account of the night, and he said he caught the victim inside his shop rather than on the street.
Demaske said he wanted to scare the victim because $400 had previously been stolen from a bank bag in the shop. The two men took him to the warehouse and started questioning him on whether he stole from them, according to the complaint.
Demaske said Samatar told the victim to take off his clothes and forced him into a room with a band saw. The room included a meat slicer, chest freezers, a knife block filled with knives, blood-stained aprons, pornography and machetes, according to the complaint.
Samatar said Demaske had turned on the meat saw and told the victim he was going to be “cut.”
Demaske and Samatar have both been charged with false imprisonment, second-degree assault and terroristic threats.
Based on the pictures of the perps, I'll go out on a big redwood limb and predict that upon further review, the authorities will discover a meth connection, as well.

The first season of Fargo was aces, but I fear the second will be an extended Reagan bash (since he is a prominent figure in the season, played by Bruce Campbell). I hope that’s not what it is, because I just want some quality entertainment.
