ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers' red-clad fans stood on their feet clapping in unison before the start of the ninth inning, anticipating something special Tuesday night at Globe Life Park. They never sat down. Three batters into the inning, the Rangers had their seventh walk-off win of the season. Mitch Moreland's sacrifice fly to center field scored pinch-runner Drew Stubbs with the winning run.
Texas 6, Houston 5.
The Rangers, left for dead in late July when they fell nine games behind the Houston Astros, will wake up Wednesday morning in first place for the first time this season.

This is a medium volume ping list during the baseball season and a low volume ping list when all life stops in late October.
Go Rangers! What a job Jeff Bannister has done this year.
At the beginning of the season, I thought the Rangers would lose 100+ games, their hitting was atrocious and their pitching (without Darvish and Holland) was even worse. They are still about -20 in run differential for the year. But Daniels (who I wanted to run out of town earlier in the year) stepped it up with some great acquisitions, especially Cole Hamels.
I thought i read that Hamels, who I like, was struggling in Texas?
Hamels hasn’t exactly looked like a Cy Young candidate yet, but he’s been ok. But just getting him I think lit a charge in the locker room. Even Hamilton, when he hasn’t been hurt, has been productive.
Off topic but I see the Rangers play at what is now called Globe Life Park. Anybody else have trouble keeping up with constant name changes of stadiums???
While this is not directly related to article, but I was wondering what others here think of MLB moving the Astros over to the American League from the National? It still seems a bit odd to me, IMHO. In years past, I thought it would have been cool to have had a Rangers-Astros World Series.
Saw this on ESPN last night. Now they are in first place with Houston wondering what happened.
Congrats. But wait for a year or two, and see how good these Astros will be.
Still a long way to go, still five games left between the Stros and Rangers.
The Astros have a very bright future, I think they and the Rangers should rule the AL West for the next few years.
What I would say would get me not only banned from FR, but also the internet.
I think it’s great that the Rangers finally have a natural rival, instead of a team from California. Texas teams should not be in the same division as California teams, they should be with Kansas City, Chicago, Minnesota, etc.
Young lineup with no little or no prior pennant race experience. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. :)
Right now, I'd say our chances of making the post season are about 1 in 3. Pretty sure the Rangers will effectively sew up the division within a week, with us losing the chance for the second wild card spot probably during the October weekend.
I am a fan, but also that pessimestic.
Twins fan here.
I want one of the two Texas teams to go into a big slump.
Either one.
With all due respect to you and the Twins, I no longer fear the Twins. Back when they played in the Metrodome I did. That place was a nightmare for visiting teams in the post season.
If Houston does not go into a deep slump over the next 2 weeks they will have had a fine season. They lost 100 only last year or 2 years ago didn’t they???
Fear The Swinging Dead...
*sigh*
