AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told Hardball host Chris Matthews, I dont know what the difference is between a Democratic Socialist and a Democrat.
During an appearance on the MSNBC program last week, Trumka was asked by Matthews about Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. [ ]
I dont think people care, Trumka replied. I dont know what the difference is between a Democratic Socialist and a Democrat. I dont really know what the difference is and I think most voters dont care.

That is a full fledged commie’s take on it.
Wow.I think more voters care than what trumka thinks.
this signals the AFL-CIO leadership’s willingness to consider (or maybe strong backing already for) Bernie Sanders
it is a big speed bump in Hillary’s path to take over the White House
this is not just some ignorant statement by an old union boss that almost nobody would have reason to listen to
this appears to be very significant for internal D party politics (and the eventual D party nominee), imho
They are trying to fool us. The people are letting themselves be hoodwinked just as they were with Obama. If they understood what socialism really is, 95 percent of them would run screaming in the other direction.
I recently explained it to a liberal person I know, and she heard me, physically heard me that is, but then came back with “Medicare, Social Security, equal wages for women, living wage, nothing very scary.” She heard me but she didn’t HEAR me. Same thing as happened with Obama. That nice little word “social,” plus the above website tranquilizers, were more important. She didn’t want to know the rest of it.
Debbie Blabbermouth didn’t know either.
That makes two now.
Nothing democratic about socialists. Eventually it will morph into their way or a bullet.
It is actually pretty tragic that a self avowed socialist is getting so much support.
I know he will not get the Cuban citizen vote. They have already lived the “Socialist Dream”.
“this signals the AFL-CIO leaderships willingness to consider (or maybe strong backing already for) Bernie Sanders”
Bang! goes the hammer on the nail.
I can just hear him saying, “But I TOLD you I was a socialist!”
From what I read most of his hard hats will vote for Donald Trump they get the chance
That's because there ain't none.
I used to believe that. IMO, if they understood what socialism really is, on 40-50% of them would run screaming. Please tell me I am wrong.
Socialists - call themselves liberal, progressive, whatever deceitful label the choose - systematically avoid using the word government. I clearly recall a homework assignment in HS (back in the Eisenhower Administration). I agonized over the question asked in the assignment, but my reply, given orally, was conservative. The teachers reply, which in long retrospect I accept to have been the actual point of the assignment, was to assert that We like to use society to say, government. I didnt accept that as sound logic at the time, and at that moment I would have loved to have read - and to have memorized - the following:SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil . . . - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)
Were I Speaker of the House, I would make it a House Rule that a Point of Order can be made any time that a Member uses society or public or the people when the speaker means nothing other than government.
The only difference that I can think of is that the socialist would probably tell you that he is a socialist, whereas the Democrat would deny it.
Well, DWS didn’t deny it or confirm it, but she evaded the question.
