David Ortiz has provided Boston Red Sox fans with countless memories. He helped end the 86-year World Series drought in 2004, played a key role in raising another championship banner in 2007 and won MVP of the 2013 World Series in one of the most historic performances in postseason history. In addition to that playoff success, Big Papi has created many more special moments with walk-off hits, towering home runs and an engaging personality. Ortiz reached another milestone in his Hall of Fame-worthy career Saturday by hitting his 500th career home run in a win against the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s the 27th player to join the 500-home run club. It also marked his 50th multi-homer game.

Well. I take that back. Ortiz is a proven winner and not a loser. He just needs a good public speaking coach.

I so agree. On the day he was given the World Series MVP they were talking about kicking Alex Rodriguez out of baseball for good. But people “liked” Ortiz so it was ok. There's lots of proof he used PED’s— look at his first few years baseball cards and then look at his “mostly pinch hit” years cards. Yeah. It's obvious.

The league had no list of banned prescription drugs at that time. You could be using Flonase and be on that list. Sorry. No proof.

RE: he is a boring DH hitter

You obviously have never seen him hit. Boring is not a word that anyone who knows the game would ever associate with him.

Ortiz getting in before Bagwell? Bagwell played his first 9 years in a stadium that was one of the toughest to hit a HR in MLB history ever He would have easily passed 500 otherwise. Bagwell also won gold a gold glove, and in fact is better than Ortiz on almost all batting categories. 200+ SB for Bagwell. Ortiz? 15 (lol)

IF he does get in earlier, it just more MLB costal mindset and HOF BS as far as I am concerned.

Um...Oritiz is still playing. He’s not eligible until five years after he retires.

But you are correct that sometimes the HOF leaves you scratching your head. For instance there is no reason Catfish Hunter should be in the hall and not Luis Tiant.

I know that . Still, the point is that as far as I am concerned Bagwell is more deserving, and even after 5 years of eligibility, he is not in,

Ortiz has a foul mouth, and has used it in front of a Fenway Park full of children.

But alas, he may never get into the Hall of Fame. The reason is simple: a lot of suspicions of PED use, even though Ortiz has never test positive since PED testing became mandatory in 2005.

I was at the game. The Trop is the opposite of Fenway. Fenway is a great ballpark while The Trop could make a dump look inviting.

Excuses, excuses. The league was testing for PEDs, not Flonase.

It was survey testing, not "official" testing, because they hadn't worked out the protocols with the MLBPA yet, but it was to survey for performance enhancing drugs to see if there was a need for further tests and for a policy. As it turned out, there was.

it was a survey to see how many came up hot for steriods, not illegal steriods, any steroids. Almost all nasal sprays for allergies are steroidals and anyone who was using them would come up hot just as anyone who was injecting steroids would. I don’t know and you don’t know what he may have come up hot on. The league has never realease ANY information on that list. So slander away moron.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/07/31/ortiz_confirms_he_tested_positive_in_2003/

“David Ortiz, the greatest single-season home run hitter in Red Sox history, yesterday acknowledged testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003”

Note that he admits testing positive for a PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUG, although he has disingenuously claimed that he has no idea how that happened. He doesn’t say he tested positive for Flonase. He himself admits that it was a PED>

Now, in 1991, then- Commissioner Fay Vincent sent a memo saying PEDs were against the rules, so it’s not as if nobody knew they were banned. (It’s just that no penalty had yet been established.)

NOte that all the other players identified from that list as testing positive are now known PED users — Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Larry Bigbie, Jason Grimsley, David Segui, and Sammy Sosa. But somehow, “Big Papi” must be innocent in your view.

I previously provided several other links on this.

Your facts are wrong. It was a test for anabolic steroids, which have been banned for as long as anyone can remember.
