RAF Typhoon fighters have scrambled to intercept Russian long-range bombers flying north of the UK. The incident on Thursday saw jets from RAF Lossiemouth called to the 'Blackjack' bombers flying in international airspace near the UK. Britain has repeatedly called such flights dangerous and provocative because the Russian military aircraft refuse to identify themselves to air traffic controllers.

Nice of Putin to send some Blackjacks instead of Bears for a change of pace.

Wikipedia says that there are fewer than 16 in operational service.
Still, drop some cruise missiles, and skedaddle at Mach 2...

Why are the Russians having all the fun?
To: JoeProBono
Nice...hehehe...sixteen F-16s.
But the thread is about RAF Typhoons and Russian TU-160 Blackjacks. LOL!
Additional eye candy is always appreciated.

Russian Blackjack (AKA Tupolev Tu-160). Looks like a failed attempt to copy our old B-1.
RAF Typhoon (probably a slightly older version).

Each with a cup of tea in one hand, a scone in the other and derby on his head, and the Brits still caught and controlled those Ruskie bombers fast.
Cheers for the Limeys!

Russian Blackjack (AKA Tupolev Tu-160). Looks like a failed attempt to copy our old B-1. "copy" "failed": I do not think those words mean what you think they mean.
1 The Tu-160 is actually a development of the 60s Myasishchev M-18 design
2. compared to the Bone, the Tupelov carries more, faster, further.

Actually...no, not failed at all.
Very expensive for the Ruskies...and they only built 36 or so of them, of which I believe 25 are still in service.
But the Blackjack is a very decent and capable bird...not to be underestimated.
It has a larger payload than the Bone, and is in fact supersonic (Mach 2), built really to mimic the B-1A.
Russian electronics are not as good as ours by far...but they do know how to build decent aircraft...and this bomber remains a very real threat.
