What would we call that?Subhuman shield?
No. A just reward.
Duck And Cover Baby!
If you are 100 miles away you are quite safe. Check out NukeMap. You can model the effects of various nuclear explosions.

Step Zero: Don’t be someplace that the bad guys are going to nuke.
I know quite a few people who are blissfully oblivious to the warning signs; in fact, they are totally ignorant of them, not watching TV news, reading newspapers, or getting news via the Internet. They are wrapped up in their own little lives and really think they will be unaffected; because, utterly unaware, they have no idea anything is about to hit the fan.
I’m not 100 miles away. I’m within 100 miles of NYC. I’m probably about 75 miles as the crow flies.
See my post above on NYC.
The biggest killer in a NYC nuke will be the chaos that follows. After a couple days being cut off without food, a lot of NYCers will quickly realize that honkey really is the other white meat.
Might not even make it to a couple days, actually.
I don’t think I really want to be around if that happens.
Gots to git me sum leeeen...
You should still be ok from radiation and fallout, which the winds will carry to the East and Northeast.
Look up some of the pictures taken from the ISS right after the 9-11 attacks. You’ll see where the smoke is blowing and can assume that under most conditions thats where the fallout footprint will be.
So unless youre 75 miles is out to sea on a boat, or maybe on the far East Coast of Long Island, radiation isn’t a big worry for you.
The big worry is breakdown of civil order and refugees. Particularly on Long Island which will have a lot of refugees but not a heck of a lot of good ways to get relief supplies to them quickly.
I’m just inside the Pennsylvania border. The New Jersey border is about a 10 minute drive from me. I’d still worry because it would depend on the size of the bomb.
Look at the blast radii charts linked to earlier.
Also, understand that Iran will at most be able to develop relatively primative fission bombs. Most likely gun-style, possibly implosion (can’t remember what the Norks are believed to have). Those top out at around 15-30 kilotons. There’s no way they’re going to manage a two-stage fusion bomb. Way too technically advanced for them AND unlike a gun-style fission bomb they’d have to cook one off to really see if it worked.
Just get in a refrigerator. :)
Thank You. You’ve set my mind at ease. I still feel terrible for all of the other people who would die. I’ll definitely be stocking up on some potassium iodide though, even if the radiation won’t reach as far as PA.
Just keep in mind that the Donner Party were all relatives or travelling companions. That soccer team in the Andes was a team.
Extrapolate to a population that has been socialized over several generations to revile, covet, despise and hate another population. Put those two populations into the same geographic area and introduce starvation.
At a base level we’re all just animals. And we’re the product of generations of ancestors who were good enough at killing things to survive long enough to reproduce. At some point instinct takes over.
How to Survive a Nuclear Terrorist Attack
Don’t be there when it goes off.
I recall some specific instructions from a 1960’s wall poster when nuclear war was feared.
It went something like this:
Get away from windows and other glass. Remove sharp objects from your pockets, place your head between your legs as far as they will go. Kiss your ass good bye.
LOL...I remember those...I see the poster on eBay now and then.
yep...I try to live where and how I might make things work...there are three or four others I know I can trust and they me...we plan to work together, stay together, fight together.
Of course one never knows. But I don’t see going it alone as entirely wise either.
The cities of course will be slaughter yards. Feral bands and even armies will gather. Clear out here in the middle of the country we hope to be ready for them.
