A friend in Brazil asked me how he might come to the US to work. He's a PhD in optics so I suggested an H1B visa would be the way and I looked into it for him. And I discovered something surprising.
Back in the 50s or 60s when they were revamping immigration law they had a visa process for entertainers / hospitality people but they forget to include fashion models. When they were creating the H1B visa for technical people, they decided to throw in the fashion models to fix the problem. And because there are relatively few fashion models seeking to come here, it's really easy for them, to get one, much easier than actual technology workers. Consequently Giselle came to the USA on an H1B visa.
