The CEO of Arby's Restaurant Group has offered free meals to all police officers in the Miami area following a controversial incident in South Florida.
The incident involved an Arby's employee and a uniformed Pembroke Pines Police officer. The employee reportedly refused to serve the officer.
The head of the chain issued an apology to the Pembroke Pines Police Department after the incident was reported The chain confirmed to NBC 6 the manager involved has been fired and the employee has been suspended indefinitely.
According to the incident report, Sgt. Jennifer Martin said she was using the drive-thru when the clerk, identified as 19-year-old Kenneth Davenport, "seemed slightly rude and short with his responses," but she assumed there was a problem with the speaker system.
But when Sgt. Martin pulled to the window and handed her credit card to Davenport, manager Angel Mirabal approached the window.
"He doesn't want to serve you because you are a police officer," Mirabal told Sgt. Martin, according to the report.
Davenport had to be ordered to process Sgt. Martin's credit card, and she told Mirabal she felt uncomfortable and wasn't certain she wanted to dine there, the report said.

Mirabal handed her the food and assured her everything was okay, the report said.
"Mirabal even laughed and said he is allowed to refuse to serve me," Sgt. Martin noted in the report.
Davenport showed up at the restaurant on Wednesday with his grandfather and denied the accusation, calling it a joke and a misunderstanding. He added he has no problems with police officers.
On Thursday, Arby's CEO Paul Brown issued a letter to Miami Metro-area Police Departments, inviting police officers to Arby's for a free meal.
"As a show of our appreciation and support, this Friday, September 4 we invite you to visit any of our restaurants in the Dade-Broward metro area to receive a free combo meal of your choice. Simply show up in uniform to receive your free meal compliments of your friends at Arby's." The letter also apologized again for the incident.
"Please accept our sincerest apology for the recent incident that occurred at our Arby's restaurant in Pembroke Pines, FL. This isolated incident does not represent Arby's Restaurant Group (ARG) views and Arby's values. We appreciate all that you do, as well as the hard work and sacrifices of your fellow law enforcement officials in communities across America."
The incident inspired numerous other businesses to show their support for the Pembroke Pines Police Department. On Thursday, the officers were treated to all-day breakfast from McDonald's and 102.7, bagels and muffins from Whole Foods and pastries from Sergio's.
"They give everything for us. They go out every day to support us, to be sure that we have a safe community. So it's just giving a little bit back for people that go outside and give their life for us," said Raul Abreu with Sergio's.
Arby’s moved quickly on this. If I’m the police though......no more meals at Arby’s.
Why would she ever consider eating that food - who knows what those punks did to it in the kitchen?
The fallback excuse. It was just a joke. smdh
Wow. Kind of like being a service member in the 70s through the mid 80s.
I think she actually went inside to return and get a refund. I think he refused to wait on her. But, I can’t remember for sure.
Headline says, manager fired and employee suspended, but I sure did not see anything in the main body of the story that confirms that. Sounds to me like a cover story while the corner office boys figure a way to transfer these two affirmative action employees to a less conspicuous store.
Please note, no apology from Angel Mirabal or Kenneth Davenport.
If I were a cop, not only in the Tampa Bay area but anywhere, I would tell Arby’s to pound sand.
I am not a cop but I intend to inform them why I will not be patronizing Arby’s again.

Sentence three in the story
I’ve only been to Arby’s two or three times. They’re going to be seeing me a lot less frequently after this BS. I’m a Chick-Fil-A kinda guy.
I wondered about that. I don’t think I’d want to eat anything that hairy thing passed out to me.
You got that right. I had one of these bull**** experiences flying home to Phoenix from San Francisco back in 1972. A “young” hippy family refused to sit near me because I was a baby killer and decided to make a scene on the plane. As I look back on it now, they were real aholes. It didn’t bother me then because I was going home.
What year? Sorry that happened to you.
He probably doesn’t even wear a uniform cap or sterile hairnet to cover those dusty Whoppie Goldberg dredlocks.
Nasty. Now he has all day to sit at home and do his crack.
1972.

lol Pembroke Pines is Broward county , Miami Metro is Dade county .
It’s a jurnilist - just be happy they got the state right and most of the words are spelled correctly.
And .. who wants to be served food by someone who has that mop of hair. I do hope he’s wearing some sort of hair covering when he’s working.
If he isn’t, maybe the Health Department needs to make a little trip to that store .. just to check up that he’s wearing a hair covering.
Well, punishing the store for one person’s actions; that’s not fair to the other employees.
What I don’t understand is why the “server” was not fired, as well as the manager ..??
