You cannot read a single Trump thread on any site on the web without someone calling him Reagan, better than Reagan, America’s salvation, posting memes of him in armor/wearing a cape and repeating his catch phrases ad nausem. We all see it every day.

Now considering he has no conservatism to speak of in his actual record/history, it’s a logical conclusion all this unwarranted praise is coming from his promises and words. There is one other possibility. That People are projecting their wants and desires on what they want him to be and not who he actually is. They are basing their support on ‘Hope’ for ‘Change’. Because there is so far nothing but words and promises. It is a pure act of faith.

In all likelihood it’s a combo of the two. Now where have we seen that before?

The Pillars of Styro.

How did that turn out? You remember as do I, all the sudden conversions here with people suddenly believing Mitt Romney would have his feet held to the fire and that he was sorta conservative and good enough and the alternatives were worse...after YEARS of trashing the guy, rightly, for his hard liberal past actions.

So what’s different? Trump is absolutely more to the right than Mitt is. But then unlike 12, we have Ted Cruz sitting there 1000 times moreso. And what do we see? Obamazombie behavior eradicating years of their OWN praise for the guy right here on FR to once again flush their conservative ‘principles’ and go with a lesser evil to win no matter what.

If you can find one thing I just said that has not happened exactly as I wrote it, I would love to see it. Since we both know it IS true, then it is what it is Windy. People want so desperately to ‘believe’ they are again going full on Fox Mulder and seeing things they want to.

With Ted Cruz in the race, even with his couple blunders, he is head and shoulders above Trump as a Conservative, a Christian and a constitutionalist. There is ZERO excuse for any conservative to go bug nuts for anyone else unless he utterly blows it and contrary to Donald’s vocal fans assertions, he hasn’t.

A year out and already they invent reasons to not back the man they praised endlessly just a year ago and praise endlessly the man they called a reality show circus clown. Just that fast.

WTF is wrong with this picture Windy???

Of course they did the same thing to Palin remember? Same crew. Same BS. And we got Barry twice for their efforts.

I am reaching the point where I have little desire to spoil the fun of the Trump enthusiasts who are unlikely to listen to me in any event.

Like so many other Trump bashers, you offer no alternative...If not Trump, then who???

I am reaching the point where I have little desire to spoil the fun of the Trump enthusiasts who are unlikely to listen to me in any event. Instead, I am going back to the books. I will finish my latest reading of Thomas a' Kempis's Imitation of Christ, perhaps acquire and read St. John of the Cross's Dark Night of the Soul, re-read all of Scripture (Douay-Rheims Challoner edition of the late 16th century), steep myself in the Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers and the history of the American Revolution and of the Second American Revolution of 1861-1865 (to remind myself of what this country was SUPPOSED to be about), re-read Friedrich von Hayek's Road to Serfdom (we shall soon need its lessons), Ludwig von Mises (almost anything), the encyclicals, books, plays of Pope Saint John Paul II, and encyclicals of Popes Saint Pius X, Pius XII, John Paul I, and Benedict XVI (while I and the world await the election of an actually Catholic pope), Dietrich von Hildebrand, Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago and other works, Boris Pasternak's Dr. Zhivago, The Black Book of Communism, Whittaker Chambers' Witness, and other literature to prepare for the imminent age of darkness. That will give me plenty productive to do while not engaging in arguments that seem unlikely to win.

While you bury yourself in some books, we will continue to fight for the only candidate who gives the people some hope...

March 28, 2015: “I made it clear that for me, if somebody wants to be a citizen, they need to go back to their country of origin, get in line, no preferential treatment,” Walker said. “In terms of what to do beyond that, again, that’s something we got to work with Congress on.

Walker doesn't want to dirty his hands with the issue...He's going to leave the problem with Congress...More than likely the people who are financing Walker's campaign won't allow him to get too negative on illegal aliens...

Notice the difference...Walker says the illegals should go back...Trump says, 'I'll round 'em up and send them back, and their anchor babies too'...

So which position is far better for America??? That's pretty obvious...

“It would be really nice for a change for some posters to talk about the issues and not attack me.”

Hey, when you go on the attack with this, like you did with this thread of yours, you expecting we are all Romney’s and are going to roll over and let you have your rants without recourse?

Maybe you need help from your Roman dictator friend, Cincinnatus...

Barry gave about 80 million people hope. Then screwed about 79 million of them. Want hope? Get a Christmas catalog. You can hope for page after page. Want a conservative with a near perfect record and a long history of being on the right side of issues? Vote Cruz.

History will record that you were easily gulled. I recommend that bibliography tom you as the new dark age descends upon it. It will adjust your attitudes in a wide variety of praiseworthy ways.

You apparently favor the Rump because he is selling Dr. Feel Good really cheap by the tankerload on a very limited handful of issues. Get his snake oil now and pay, bye and bye (and probably a lot sooner than you might imagine) by losing your freedom and your future and, ummmm, Western Civilization.

As Ronaldus Maximus might have said under the circumstances, you had better teach your children and your grandchildren to be fluent in Chinese and Arabic and have them read to cite the Koran and Chairman Mao's Little Red Book with equal facility. They will need it with the heritage you are leaving them.

IIRC, it was George Santayana who wisely observed that those who fail to grasp history are condemned to repeat it. I had made the mistake of thinking more of you while disagreeing on theology. Now it appears that we (the conservative movement) disagree with you and the Trump enthusiasts on a WHOLE LOT more.

You are proof that the sTrumpettes will not listen at this point. Your apologies will be accepted when the time inevitably comes.

Whatever you may indulge yourself and your emotions in posting as a response, the bibliography I posted is my response back to you. I have zero desire to waste more time arguing with the wall or is that the Trump Wall. After all, Trump gives you HOPE (for change?) and how could that go wrong?

“Your apologies will be accepted when the time inevitably comes.”

Actually Elk, history teaches us that accepting their apologies only guarantees that they will simply do it again and again. Every election they say ‘oops! Well we didn’t have a choice! or some other garbage when in fact, their very choices stabbed conservatives in the back and benched conservative candidates. And we say, “Aw shucks, you’re family!”

If we had simply said “Tough” and not let them waltz back into the canoe club with exactly zero ramifications to their cred, they might have thought twice about pissing it away so easily...and at so great a cost to their country.

But the people that screamed for Mitt are back this go around screaming for Trump or Walker, hell even Perry. And making Cruz out to be the Antichrist. Same as it ever was.

So I expect Trump will either walk into the big chair and then revert to his life’s history they so carefully ignore, or blow sky high after they bench Cruz leaving them to say “We have no choice! in Nov. And so history will again, repeat. Leaving the door open for more lesser BS in 18.

As to alternatives, there are: above all Scott Walker. If not Walker, then Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio (yes I realize he blundered on immigration but I believe in the forgiveness of sin), Ben Carson, Rick Santorum, Eternal Vigilance, Mike Huckabee (did I really say that?), Rand Paul (did I really say that?), maybe Julie Nixon Eisenhower or Pat Buchanan or Franklin Graham. Not Gilmore, not Pataki, not Fiorina (in all likelihood), not Light Loafers Graham, not Rick Perry, not the ones I am forgetting snd certainly not Trump unless he manages the miracle of infecting me with the Trumponic Plague.

Don't like my priorities? Too bad. I bet I have been at this a lot longer than you have.

That's entirely possible...

The way I see it it's like jumping out of an airplane without knowing who packed my chute (Trump) as opposed to jumping out of the airplane without a chute (everyone else)...I don't know where Trump is going to take us but I know where everyone else is taking us and it ain't pretty...

Since you don't have any recommendations are you suggesting we just stay home and don't vote for anyone...

The only reason he wouldn’t be there is if conservatives Palinize him. His fundraising is top end and he doesn’t seem to be relying on GOP assistance. So there’s only one way to assure he won’t. Choose lesser evils over conservatives. Same as it ever was.

NL:

I didn't say that I would ally with him after his apology or accept him back into the fold as if he had not been a sTrumpette, just that I would accept the apology. He's not my family. I suspect he voted for Willard last time exactly as you say. I am pinging him only because we are discussing him and certainly not out of a desire for further conversation with him. My above-cited bibliography is still my answer to him.

Since I DO listen to you, what is your problem with Scott Walker? Living just south of Wisconsin as I do, I must say that his performance as governor up there has exceeded that of any governor in my lifetime, even the sainted Ronaldus Maximus. I have followed this guy since he was a state representative, then overthrew Demonrat control of the Milwaukee County Board by recalling most Demonrats on the Board, became County Board Chairman, moved on to break the Demonrat stranglehold on the governorship by beating Milwaukee's hopelessly leftist Mayor Tom Barrett, enacted a state right-to-work law for most public employees (excepting police and firemen), enacted right-to work for everyone public or private not already excepted, enacted right-to-life bill after bill, enacted photo ID to vote, cut taxes, balanced budgets, worked with the conservative black Democrat Sheriff Clarke of Milwaukee County on law and order issues, expanded school vouchers to free more kids from the public schools, defeated the attempt to recall him and his lieutenant governor and several state senators and a crucial state supreme court justice and literally dozens of other wonderful things. His latest was ending tenure for teachers at least at University of Wisconsin, if not the state's public elementary and secondary schools (of which I am not sure).

His campaign has not been up to his normal standards in terms of effectiveness but Scott Walker looks to me like a great guy and the left's worst nightmare.

Your turn.

Walker is USCOC. Walker is GOPE. That’s a no go on 2 fronts for me. No need to even get into his doubletalk on issues.

If we want the GOP gone, it isn’t going to work to keep their fair haired boys in our votes. I -would- put Walker ahead of a Mitt or a Perry or a Huckabee or Kaish. That said he’s still far under 80% in my view and I believe his actions back that up.

His flip flops and shaky ground on Homo issues tell me he is not to be trusted to stand on principle and his choice in associates and staff hires finish it.

Worse choices? Absolutely. But that’s relative.

Hey, when you go on the attack with this, like you did with this thread of yours, you expecting we are all Romney’s and are going to roll over and let you have your rants without recourse?

I have been bringing up the issues on a number of political threads and have received not a single reply about the issues. I have been told I was disgusting, but none have addressed the issues:
1) Trump is weak on the 2nd amendment. He has supported bans on various weapons and so far has not stated a different opinion.
2) Will not defund planned parenthood and still supports rape, incest, and health of the mother as exceptions.
3) Previously supported a 14% confiscatory wealth tax. Has yet to say he has "evolved" on that issue.
4) Supports a single payer health care system.

None of these is a Conservative position. I am thrilled that he wants to deal with the illegal immigrants, but that is not the only issue.

Dark Ages is right! Your bibliography is splendid.

I have been thinking how ignorant the populace is in this full bore Age of Decadence, of all these great works, and this present condition of our critically “dumbed down” existence, to such an extent that words fail. My God knows the tyranny of man over God has begun, and now is well underway in the USA. See Planned Parenthood openly and legally engage in Nazi atrocities, on American soil, to the most innocent among human kind, and the sure tyranny coming with the elevation of the abomination of homosexual life given power by the state to destroy family and faith, law and justice.

Politically speaking, ELK, the good guys can no longer get elected, because the fractured electorate is not buying what they are selling. Evangelicals are about the last to garner any consideration for ascending to the presidency, and bad Catholics have only a slightly better shot.

Is it reasonable to “hope” that a secular candidate, who says a lot of the right things, can be used for the cliff jumping that is sure to come, no matter who becomes president? Words, pledges and promises all fall to the mercy of the secularism already firmly ensconced in every single institution in the land, especially in our New Age Public Education system.

It is my hope Trump sounds secular enough to lull the Left, rather than the right, so that he can then cause a set back to their agenda, and not ours. We are cynical that Cruz or Walker can be victorious in this climate. Trump is just a “maybe” himself. We don’t know what’s coming, but I think he may be sincere about deploring our demise and the open borders and the dumbed down leadership and the incompetency. Maybe I am wrong, but if I can’t make myself believe Cruz can ever be elected, you can see why I am compelled in good conscience to vote for one whom I happen to believe is telling the truth with enough vigor that he may accomplish something if given the chance.

Norm, I’ve been a vocal Cruz supporter on this site since he first rose to prominence. I voted for him in the Texas primary, the run-off, and the general election, when he ran for the U.S. Senate. He’s also the one and ONLY politician I have ever given money to.

Like you, I see him as the most Reaganesque politician to come down the pike since....well...Reagan. I want him to be our president in 2016, but as they say, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride for free.

It’s just not going to happen this go-round. He simply isn’t catching fire with the electorate the way Donald Trump is. Trump is pulling support from across the political spectrum, and from all ages and social strata. Ted’s support is mostly confined to us knuckle dragging, bitterly clinging purists. He’s not resonating strongly enough with a large enough segment of the population to put him within striking distance of the nomination.

That is what is actually occurring in real time, in the real world. How we feel about it is irrelevant.

No one’s cast a single vote yet, but people are vetting the candidates and letting their preferences be known to pollsters. The results of those polls are the closest thing we can get to a virtual election at this moment in time, and Trump is winning it in a landslide.

That is also not wishful thinking or conjecture. It’s what’s happening in real time, in the minds of millions of real voters. It’s a picture of their aggregate perceptions of the candidates. We can stand here yelling at reality, but it doesn’t care. It just keeps on sitting there - being real.

I’ve already expressed my thoughts on why Trump is in the lead. No need to go over all that again. If the others in the race want to catch up to him, and maybe even surpass him, they’d better do a better job of reading the electorate, and modifying their message to speak to what’s most important to us. That’s all that Trump did, and look what happened.
