Florida is a state known for its sun, surf, and sand, where South Beach is famous and theme parks are abundant. But wait a minute! Florida also has a darker, offbeat and downright weird side, where ancient mysteries and legends reside. Florida can be a state of confusion with searches for bizarre beasts and answers to unexplained phenomena.
Then there are dozens of roadside oddities celebrating Floridas eccentricities like the beer can car, giant cement gators, a castle built of junk, the worlds most unusual monument and the most beautiful pyramids you can rent among a slough of other crazy surprises.
In the middle of all these strange and unusual discoveries, you can find the master of weird, Charlie Carlson and his canine sidekick, Miss Scarlet. Charlie is a tenth generation Floridian who will take the viewer behind the scenes and up close to Floridas best-kept secrets and oddest legends. Hes a witty folk historian and explorer of the Sunshine States unexplained phenomena. As the author of the best selling book Weird Florida, he is the perfect tour guide for this wild and wacky adventure.
Weird Florida Roads Less Traveled is a one-hour documentary produced for Public Television. From Key West to the Gulf of Mexico, well travel the highways, byways and even down a few back roads in search of the Sunshine States weirdest and wackiest places. We will chronicle this sightseeing adventure with Charlie as our guide into Floridas unknown world of weird where viewers will discover a different kind of tourist destination.
If he's Florida's master of weird...
He’s very large....
Nick your missing a lot of threads where you need to trash Trump. I have been ‘IBN’ on a lot of them.
I’d like to watch that, esp. anything he has on the panhandle around the Forgotten Coast area.
Coral Castle in Homestead is worth a visit.
Pretty amazing story.
Can’t you do it a little? Do I have to do everything?
lol...
Ha ha, good answer.
Thanks
Years ago, we stayed at a little hotel in Florida. It was decorated by a widow & her kids, with bits of sea glass & seashells, stuck in plaster here & there, painted all pink, green & white - like sleeping in a doll house. Husband said he half expected a giant hand to pull open the front wall & move us around like Barbie dolls. They did gourmet meals in the dining room & had live musical entertainment (a classmate of husband’s once played the harp at that place). I forget the name of the town; but the town also had other tourist attractions. We didn’t go in for the expensive gourmet fare; ate at McDonald’s instead - but, did buy some cans of the gourmet soups they produced at the hotel/motel.
