Is Windows 10 already an enterprise success? 1.5 mn installations in a month and 75 M devices say so

Less than a month after rollout of Windows 10, Microsoft has shared that its new operating system had already been installed on 75 million devices. And, interestingly nearly 1.5 million of those systems are running Windows 10 Enterprise.

The company, however, didn't disclose the scale and size of enterprise customers, but said "some of them are rolling out hundreds of machines in some very large pilots."

Also, it's not clear how many Indian organisations have deployed Windows 10 Enterprise edition. According to analysts, firms here will adopt 'wait-and-watch' strategy. "Many Indian organisations have recently moved from XP to Windows 7 and that they need compelling reasons to upgrade," Vishal Tripathi, research director, Gartner India, said.

"Organisations do look for the stability factor. Windows 7 has been there for quite some time, and Microsoft is also providing support till 2020, so Windows 7 is more established system in the enterprise. Even if they are willing to make a move then they need compatibility test and so many other things, and I see that taking about 6 months to almost year. Before that, we don't see Windows 10 uptake in Indian enterprises," Tripathi added.

In-fact, Greyhound Research CEO Sanchit Gogia said that according to their research about 70 percent of 150 organisations surveyed across Asia Pacific were not going to explore Window 10 for the next 2-3 quarters.

Business customers have always been Microsoft's biggest revenue generator. Enterprise uptake is critical to the success of Microsoft's new operating platform, and if numbers are anything to go by then 1.5 million in just a month is encouraging.

Since the Windows 10 announcement last year, Microsoft's enterprise pitch for its new operating system was quite strong. And, the company desperately hoped for Windows 10 to work its magic in order to recapture the lucrative business market, which outrightly rejected the Windows 8.

Last week, in a series of tweets from Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, Windows and Devices Group, Microsoft Corp, shared some stats that show a month-end progress of Windows 10:

-- More than 75 million devices running Windows 10 – and growing every day.

-- Windows 10 is running in 192 countries, virtually every country on the planet.

-- More than 90,000 unique PC or tablet models have upgraded to Windows 10.

-- Even some devices manufactured in 2007 have upgraded to Windows 10

-- More than 122 years of gameplay have streamed from Xbox One to Windows 10 devices.

-- 10 million achievements unlocked: Microsoft Solitaire Collection, Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta

-- In response to “tell me a joke”, Cortana has told over half a million jokes since launch.

-- Windows Store for Windows 10 has seen 6X more app downloads per device than Windows 8.

-- More than 2,000 groups are competing in Microsoft's Upgrade Your World global partnership

The NSA and Gates are jumping up and down for joy. The Facebook accumulation of profile data will pobably pale In comparison to the trojan horse that is now installed on millions of computers now.

You NEVER get anything for free. I predict the reason for the dangling carrot will appear sometime later this year and there will be some people who aren’t too happy.

Some techs are concerned that Microsoft has added this spyware into Windows 7 and 8 through recent security patches.

As far as I know nothing has been proven.

That’s only 2% of Microsoft customers... I wonder how many were Windows 8 users?

Now Microsoft is calling 2% upgrade a victory? That seems a little premature...

All I can say is Gates is one of Obama's biggest donors and supporters. He embraces Communism to as evidenced his ties to Common Core. I put nothing past The One given his track record. Sure it may not be proven but it should be expected. I expected someone to make this type of statement earlier. You win the prize...: )
