Back in the day, cars had a wider fan belt. So, my uncle goes to start his car, not realizing that the cat had gone to sleep on his fan belt for a nice warm nap. No more kitty. What a mess.

My cat came wandering home one winter after having done the same thing in someone’s car. She had very deep cuts to her head and jaw area. I always bang on my hood whenever I’ve parked outside before I start my car so no harm befalls any neighborhood cats.

One of my childhood pet cats lost a front leg that way. She was a total sweetheart before and after. I remember her with her stump shaved bare by the vet and the row of stitches. She stayed in bed — a cardboard box with a blanket —for about a week and was obviously in pain during that time but would purr when you came near. She recovered and got around just fine on her three legs.
