A pilot who died in a small plane crash in the desert northeast of Los Angeles was giving free glider rides to wounded military veterans.

I’ve spent some time in “gliders” (sailplanes) out of Mojave and Cal City. One of the best spots in the nation to fly. Up lifts on the backside of the Sierras allows long cross country flights.
