There was another ice cream place similar to Cold Stone called Marble Slab Ice Creamery that came out around the same time. Cold Stone has stuck around in my little corner of Florida, but Marble Slab hasn’t been seen in years.

Sweet Frog sounds like one of the half-dozen or so fro-yo places around us. There was a Japanese-themed place right up the street from us a few months ago, but last time we went, they’d shut down. I guess they’re dime-a-dozen sort of places.

Pronounced "Weerd bith full ah-r-rahd." Old English for "Fate is inexorable." "Wyrd" is a stronger, more all-encompassing concept when compared to our modern understanding of "fate." I suppose it refers not just to your ultimate destiny, but the road you take to get there, the experiences in your life that affect your outlook, the changes in the course of your life caused by seemingly minor events, the reality versus the might-have-beens and the road not taken. It always strikes me how deeply the Anglo-Saxons seemed to think about life.

For comparison, the Old Norse spelling of the came word/concept, "Urðr," is the name of one of the Nornir, the three all-powerful beings that direct every action in your life...I find this rather fascinating because it seems to suggest that somehow, in some vague sense, the pre-Christian pagans of the north somehow had some inkling of the Trinity...And were apparently Calvinists. ;)
