I think in retrospect, they would most likely have rethought reality TV. I was not aware that they sought reality TV. I was always under the impression that reality TV came to them. A big beautiful conservative Christian family is something to commend.
Temptation, albeit less lucrative, comes to us all. I see no reason why they needed to succumb.

The abuse the sisters endured was prior to the tv show. They went on tv knowing they had a serial abuser in the family.
Jan. I keep seeing you defending a dream, a mist, a phantom. This ideal of what should be in a perfect world. A dream that might happen ifq you could remove people from the equation.
The Duggar family is a fraud. They funded this family Kardashian style. The family was based on a lie. Bill Gothard is a fraud.
People are angry. Fraud makes people angry. The show was popular for the same reason carnival freak shows are popular. You are mistaking that sort of facination with a “big beautiful Christian family”. They have in Bill Gothard`s words defrauded themselves and many others. Let it, let them, let the fantasy go.
TLC may have come to them first, but Josh’s assault on his sisters issues happened BEFORE any filming commenced. JimBob and Michelle had a huge problem. A son who had violated their daughters (and a family babysitter), and with that very big skeleton in their closet they still elected to go forward with their reality TV show.
Rather than keep life low key, seek mental health counseling for Josh, (and for the girls) they sought out the bright TV lights.
They played as a “big, beautiful Christian family” but there was some real troubling problems there.
