No, and if you can’t tell the difference between voting for Trump and voting for the usual GOPe RINO, I think you’re lacking the fundamental understanding of Republican party dynamics to really make a good assessment of the race.

DT is a multibillionaire. The richest man ever to run for POTUS. He writes big checks to both sides, but mostly Dems. He lives in big mansions and penthouses in NYC. Trump is more than a country club Republican. He actually OWNS many of the world’s best golf courses. Hard to find ANYONE more elitist and country club GOP than DT!!!!!

I don’t see how supporting someone like Sen. Ted Cruz would be in violation of conservative or Republican principles.

While I love Trump’s bombastic and blustery political incorrectness, what has he actually done over the years build up the conservative movement? I see a lot more checks going to the Dems than anything else including Hellary’s campaigns.

Oh, I don’t know. In the title I credited the author, Ira Stoll, and the publication, Newsmax. In the old days that would have been sufficient attribution for someone to verify what I said, in a matter of minutes. Direct links to are handy, I suppose, but they remove the incentive for someone to think, do, and see for themselves. I would put them on a par with 10 second sound bites removed from the context of a 20 minute speech, sort of like spoon feeding tiny bits of selected information to someone. I will, however, include them in any future posts as it seems folks don’t want to move away from the mouse to the keyboard.

Supporting Cruz is fine. He was my candidate up until about a month ago, and he and Carson are somewhere 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 2nd for me right now. (I’d be fine with either one as Trump’s veep.) And if Trump goes wacko in his economic plan or whatever, I’ll be back to them at the top of my candidate list.

Cruz right now is polling with one ninth the support of voters believing he’d be best for the economy (5%) compared to those believing that Trump would be best (45%). IMO a lot of that is because Cruz has primarily a legal resume to start, and then he’s humoring his biggest financial supporters by focusing primarily on “religious liberty” and defunding PP—when we have hugely bigger problems to deal with.

Cruz also IMO dissembled in trying to push Obama’s trade deals down our throats and similarly deceitfully claims to be anti-amnesty—while backing ‘legalization’ for illegals.

Trump has funded lots of Republicans, again mostly just them in recent years. But also back a ways he was a national fundraiser for Reagan. I’ve lived in Manhattan, and a RE guy absolutely has to kiss up to top Democrats there in order to get projects approved and left alone.

Cruz’s biggest fundraiser (his wife) is a Goldman Sachs partner.

I’ll go with Trump.

I have no issue with Goldman Sachs per se. Not everyone who works for a big Wall Street firm is a lib. I trust Mrs. Cruz is a staunch conservative.

I agree that Trump is kicking butt in the polls right now. But polls are subject to change and who they are polling really does matter. Take IA for example. Are they polling all Republicans or likely caucus goers? There is a HUGE difference.

BTW-—I support most of DT’s CURRENT policy positions. It’s his past positions and political donations which cause me the most concern.

I live in the People’s Republic of CA. We are one of the last primaries. It could very well be decided by the time I get to vote on it. Like it usually is. Say it comes down to just Jeb and DT by the time I get to vote on it. In that case I would vote for DT as a protest vote against the GOPE/RINO crowd. But I would prefer to vote for a responsible conservative with a reliable and measurable track record-—not DT.

Further,

I live in L.A. A one-party Dem town much like NYC is.

I can understand a local Republican businessman (especially a developer) donating some money to some Dem municipal politicians in order to have some influence getting a project approved. Here in LA, local Dem politicians more often than not, don’t even have Republican opposition. Same in NYC. So I get it.

But Sen. Hillary Clinton has never had a major voice in local NYC development issues and Trump’s contributions to the Clintons as well as the campaign committees run by Nancy Pelouy and Harry Reid don’t pass the smell test IMHO. Did it ever occur to you that DT could be buddy buddy with the Clintons? I think he’s in bed with them quite frankly. What did Trump and Bubba discuss right before Trump tossed his hat in the ring? I think Carly asked a good question at the last debate.

I hear ya—I’m in CT and don’t vote until the end of April.

And, I understand your position. Again, depending on what Trump comes out with in detail, I may be back in your camp again at some point as well.

I do think it’s probably good for supporters of either to be respectful of both candidates at this point.

Clinton was Senator for NY.

My initial thought was that Trump was in it to pick up conservative support, then split off into the Perot role—for getting another Clinton elected.

But I’ve listed to several of his speeches and interviews and followed his twitter feed. I am absolutely convinced that he’s for real and genuine. His trashing of Hillary, too, has been ruthless. He’s been projecting that she won’t be the ultimate nominee—and I think he may be right. We could well be facing a Biden/Warren ticket in a year.

And he WOULD be an Elitist, except for the fact he’s overturning all the Elitist applecarts, and making Elitists in both parties flip the eff out.

His comments and attitudes now, speak to many of us who are enraged that both Elitist Democrats and Elitist Republicans have no opposition to one another, and that they both seek to destroy America.

One thing Trump has CONSISTENTLY said is that America was great and we can return to greatness.

He may have seen that liberal Democrat and liberal Republican policies have been majorly destructive. I tend to take the man at his word.

I like your premise. Make people WORK to figure out what the article says or where it is. In fact, I will post an article that says absolutely nothing and has no links, and make people REALLY WORK to figure it all out.

That’s a difference between you and me.

I don’t trust anyone writing checks to the Clintons.

How much work is it to type “newsmax Ira Stoll”? I was not “pimping a blog” or trying to drive hits to a web site so I left it up to the reader to decide if they were interested enough to want to look it up. If you want to add a link that is your choice, I chose not too.

Actually, I've been playin' a little, but it is actually proper Free Republic posting behavior to add a link if one is available. I've seen posts pulled when they fail to provide a link.

Okay, accept that. I think, now, that I over reacted to your critique. I will quit being a hotlink rebel. I follow your posts on here and you are one of the good ones, except for a couple of calls on the “I’d hit that” threads. These days I have a wife, but in my other, wasted, misdirected life I would have have hit anything that didn’t hit me first. Sorry about the drama.

I can honestly say that this is the very first time I have changed anyone’s mind on the internet. LOL
