"while they have Quantum Leap episodes with all the original music, they don’t have every episode!"

Same with some other shows. It has to do with copyrights. Sometimes musicians, special directors or even special guest stars (or most likely their reps) will give permission to and participate in the show, but not on repeats or rebroadcasts from streaming.

I don’t watch it...Seems to be old and unpopular movies...

Grandkids love it...Wife watches it quite a bit...They hardly ever watch a regular cable tv movie but they watch Netflix...

It’s cheap...Try it out...

Netflix is great, and its when it builds a profile of your preferences you definitely want to assign a different profile to each member of your family.
If you use the main account and your kids watch a lot of Yo Gabba Gabba and Daniel Tiger, then they will offer up kids stuff galore and you won’t get offered much else unless you search by title.
If you use your own profile, they will quickly learn that you like Star Trek and Brave Heart and such and your offerings will reflect it.
The movies and series are good, but if you want stuff just released and newer than 6 months old, then get a subscription to Amazon Prime.

It’s easier to resist having to watch new shows when they come out. Wait a year or three, then binge on several seasons over a couple weeks. The plots and story arcs make a lot more sense because you haven’t forgotten what happened last week, month, or year. I just watched all seasons of “Damages” that way and thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you want current TV shows they day after they air then spend the $7.99 for Hulu.

We have streaming and 1 DVD rental at a time. Streaming is good, but having the DVD available is excellent, esp. if you want to watch a movie that is a new release....or an old fave not on the streaming.

I would go that route, and then watch your usage. We actively use both.

I have Apple TV with a basic Netflix subscription and I love it. I am currently watching the entire Mad Men series. They also have all the Ken Burns documentaries (It took me 4 months to watch the Baseball series.) They aren't so great with the movie selections, but they drop and add things all the time. For example, I recently wanted to see some old 80s movies like Real Genius or Valley Girl and they didn't have either, but you'll find the entire Marilyn Monroe set, a lot of westerns, or Breakfast at Tiffany's. As for recent stuff, they are hit or miss. For example, you can see the Hunger Games Catching Fire (pt 2), but you can't see The Hunger Games part 1.

I don't necessarily have to see current TV shows the day after they air, so that's not important to me (I'd much rather watch an entire series back to back, uninterrupted.) So for things like Downton Abbey, I just buy the season on iTunes and watch several episodes over a weekend.

I love their queue system. Here is some of the stuff currently in my queue:

That's a lot of TV for the price of a grande latte and a scone.

Well worth the $8/mo. From just surfing around the search function, I have pretty much figured there is more to watch than the life I have left.

Netflix makes up for Blockbusters absence. Redbox has nothing but new movies. You used to be able to shop at a Blockbuster and find what you wanted. Classics, TV, horror, comedy etc. Now there’s so much choice, there’s not enough. You can to any corner and get a Redbox movie, but it is super limited.

We disconnected cable TV and now watch Netflix a lot. There are some good documentaries as well as Netflix originals (”Bloodline” is excellent). At around $8 a month, it’s not a bad deal.

Once you have Netflix long enough, it pretty much keeps crap like that out of your suggestion queue. Like in my case netflix only thinks I (we) only watch Sci Fi, Historical, Action, and (yuk) romantic comedies. Those are the only ones that pretty much show up outside of "new", "trending", and "recently added"

We dumped DirecTV three years ago when they upped the cost of our subscription package from $60/Mo. to just over $100/Mo.

We purchased a Roku device and subscribe to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

My kids use Netflix the most. I use Hulu on occasion to watch something I missed. Amazon Prime we use mostly for the free shipping as we purchase quite a bit off Amazon Prime.

Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, we're paying about $27/mo. Compared to DirecTV, we're saving over $70/Mo. this way. I think we also get quite a bit more value out of NetFlix and Amazon Prime.

Hulu Plus' increased use of commercial breaks is really pi**ing me off and I'm getting ready to dump them. When it takes LONGER to watch an hour long program on Hulu Plus than it would've if you just watched it when it was on TV I think it's time to dump Hulu Plus. So we're probably going down to $16/Mo. between Amazon Prime and Netflix in the next few days.

One more thing: My kids complained quite a bit the first two weeks or so after I dumped DirecTV. Then they found all the different things they could watch on NetFlix and haven't complained since.

It’s $8 a month - in exchange, you get thousands of movies and TV shows. For me, it’s well worth it.

I used it initially to get over that “twitch” of finally ditching cable/sat services a handful of years back. I have the very basic which is 9 bucks a month. When I do get the time to sit down and watch something, there is usually something for me to watch, that simple. I have no complaints and keep it this days for the youngins. Once they are out on there own I probably won’t own a TV at all.
