Civilians in temporary shelter relocated after wind-change warning, state media says
BEIJINGAuthorities on Saturday ordered residents to leave the vicinity of the deadly warehouse blasts in the northeastern Chinese city of Tianjin, amid concerns over airborne chemical pollutants and fresh fires at the scene.
Civilians resettled at a temporary shelter near the blasts, which killed at least 104 people and injured more than 700 others, were transferred to another location after officials received warning of changes in wind direction, Chinas official Xinhua News Agency said.
Several other Chinese media outletsincluding Beijing News, a leading commercial newspapersaid authorities ordered an evacuation of an area within a 1.9-mile radius of the blast site over fears of toxic gases emitted from hazardous chemicals. However, state broadcaster China Central Television cited officials as saying that they ordered a shifting of some personnel and the rescue command center, rather than a general evacuation.
