Four four years of college, I regularly drove back and forth on Interstate 55 between St. Louis, Mo., and Memphis, Tenn. That route takes you through Sikeston, Mo., and if you stop in Sikeston, Mo., you might as well put your feet under the table at Lambert's Café. It's a Southern-style, home-cooking-style restaurant that serves generous portions.

The Riverfront Times, an alternative newspaper in St. Louis, wonders if the days of the "throwed" rolls are numbered. An attorney in the St. Louis suburb University City filed a lawsuit on behalf of Troy Tucker, a woman who says she suffered eye, neck and head injuries after being beaned in the head by a roll last September. She wants $25,000 for medical bills and legal fees. That number is significantly higher than the $10,000 she's reportedly spent since her injuries, but she wants the extra money in case she has more medical bills.
Pointing out that all of Lambert's signs refer to it as the "Home of Throwed Rolls," the Riverfront Times asks, "Shouldn't diners at Lambert's be responsible for some level of situational awareness when entering the restaurant? And if not, does that mean the end to throwed rolls in Missouri? What kind of country are we living in when a restaurant can't toss a freshly baked dinner roll at a man's head?"
What kind of country, indeed?

When I was on the road every week, I’d time my travel to hit Sikeston at around 11 thirty. Beat the crowd and the bus loads that usually showed up.
We went to the one in Foley, AL (near Gulf Shores) 15+ years ago. It was great! My son and his buddy had a wonderful time, and we all liked the food and rolls.

I’ve actually been there.....for the fun of it!
It’s a rip roaring fun place and the food is plentiful with plenty of fat and sodium content...
...but tourists love it.

I can’t imagine anyone getting injured by a roll!!!!....sheesh
Yeah! Lambert’s was a spot I hit while I lived in Springfield MO. That’s where I ate more veggies than anything else because they know how to do okra right!
Most times, it only takes one cold, wet blanket to put the kibosh on fun!

Just some harpy trying to get money without working for it...
1) I never -- never means not once -- saw a roll 'throwed'. They were always lobbed, mostly underhand, with a generous arc. Why? Because the place(s), there are 2 locations, the other being SE of Springfield, are crowded. Thus, to get a roll to the desired 'throwee', it's much more effective to lob than to throw.
2) The rolls are always oversized (compared to a standard restaurant dinner roll) and VERY fluffy and soft.
3) "after being beaned in the head" this alleged human was allegedly injured in the eye, neck and head??? Bullcrap. The injury as described is utterly impossible unless she fell down on the edge of a table or a seat. The rolls certainly didn't cause such an injury.
4) A lawyer in University City? You're joking. That's like saying 'an ambulance chaser at an ambulance dispatch center'.
5) The Riverfront Slimes is and always has been (afair) anti-capitalist, anti-American, and WAY left of its namesake, the NY Slimes.
But we have to wonder how much of a case Tucker has. After all, in June, the Kansas City Royals and their mascot were deemed not to have been at fault after a thrown hot dog hit a man in the face and tore his retina. In that case the "baseball rule" was referenced, and the jury found that the man assumed some responsibility for personal awareness by entering a baseball stadium.
From my psych 1 book, repeated words was used an example for something or another, the brain unconsciously filtering, maybe?. Probably more common now, with multiple windows on a screen to distract, versus the line on a typewriter back then.
Does she have proof she was ever in the restaurant?
How hard are their rolls?
Back when my sons were growing up, they’d have friends over for dinner quite often. My father was in charge of cutting the Italian bread that we would often have with dinner. Since we often had a large number of people at the table, Grandpa would throw the slices of bread to those making a request for a slice. He became quite well known among the high school kids as “the old guy who throws the bread at you.” LOL.
