Four hugely unpopular ‘women’s urinals’ at a Salzburg convention centre are finally being scrapped after 13 years of not being used. They will be replaced with conventional toilets, at an estimated cost of €21,000.When they were first installed the urinals were a talking point and were praised for their hygiene and water saving potential.
However, it seemed women visiting Salzburg’s Kongresshaus never really get the hang of them and complained that having to hover over them in a “skiing position” just wasn’t practical. It was a common sight to see women running out of the toilet, thinking they had wandered into a men’s urinal.
The manufacturers of the urinals said that when used correctly they are more sanitary than ‘sit down toilets’ as the user doesn’t have to come into contact with the seat.
They also take up less floor space - having only a small partition wall between each urinal - and use less water.
I put this in the same category as soccer moms who run around crying about global warming and drive silver Honda odyssey vans to haul their one kid to soccer practice.

Where did this idea come from?,,women’s bodies are different than men’s. Women need to sit down to do all the functions. This seems to me like a “solution” in search of a “problem” which didn’t exist. Were any women complaining that they had to go in a regular toilet to urinate???

Nowadays that’s a bit of a gray area.
Give them Chinese style squat toilets. But then again, they would probably prefer to use the Men’s room rather than those.
Problem solved.
Most women can’t be trained to leave toilet seats up, so I can see why these didn’t work.

I can’t help think this is the creep of anti-western pro-asian attitudes, self-flagellation again of our great civilizations.
Orientals apparently are very big on this “sanitary” and “more efficient” mode of potty, including #2. They insist a squat position helps get everything out better and faster.
Of course it’s “sanitary” if you don’t touch anything! But frankly I am not toned like a jockey and cannot squat like that for 1 minute or so.

Absolutely not true! In fact, there are times when there is a vas deferens between a man and a woman.
Check out stand2pee.com for laughs if nothing else. The owner offers courses and instructional DVDs teaching women how to stand to pee without “attachments” or pulling their pants down. She claims a very high success rate and that her “graduates” can pee standing up as accurately as any guy.
Why call them Chinese toilets?
In my first trip to Paris, 1969, in the middle of downtown near La Madeleine, I experienced such a toilet on Rue Duphot.
I call them French toilets.

Reminds of the the toilet I had in my hotel room when I was in Okinawa, had a sprout for both genders, god if there is one this I miss about that side of the world is that toilet.
How does that work? Are straws involved? What a gross thing to contemplate.
