I had an English bull and now have an American bulldog. They are great dogs.

I had an American also.. They are persistent dogs. I had to laugh when they tried to take it away.. those big triangular jaws mean business when they clamp down. People that think he might have gotten hurt, haven’t owned a bullie. They are crazy durable and bumping into something never stopped them. As a 12 week old pup, she simply broke her first chain collar and never broke stride. I was a tad nervous when he went into the parking lot, but any doggie lover would be listening for cars.
I found my bullie was too aggressive on a leash. She turned into a different animal on a leash.
Off the leash, she felt more comfortable and was more obedient and friendly.
