I’ve been involved in searches for unit patches, especially those for specific squadrons and specialized units. During the Vietnam War many of the squadron patches were unofficial and not formally authorized by the USAF and Army. Those patches were usually produced locally in either Vietnam, Japan or where ever the unit could find a company to make the patch. Because they are unofficial and locally made, means that you will have a hard time finding one. And the poster who said you may need to have one special order is probably the best, though, expensive route.
If you can download this photo you can have some one who does machine embroidery recreate it on a hat in the color hat that represents his branch of the Military. Just put it on a USB stick.
We had a Corvette done on the back of a jacket for hubby. His jacket contains many patches from the Ships he served aboard for 20 yrs.
If you want his medals you write your US Rep and provide a copy of his DD214 with a replacement request. Request his service records while you are at it. IF they can’t find them have them look under the VA. Many records were destroyed in a fire.
I was lucky my Dad’s were also at the VA.
Join the forum listed in post 7 and ask for help - exactly like you did here. No one will laugh at you they will welcome you with open arms. Most likely one of you father’s buddies will be there.
Hubby can’t even find some of his on line so we can have copies made. When you do a 20 year career hitch you have quite a few of them. He is still missing a few and there are not even photos of them.
It took close to 4 months for them to find my Dad’s, and ship them to me, but I can see why, Bronze Star’s are engraved with the recipient’s name. I have them in a nice shadow box now.
