Wisconsin hit a seven-decade low for highway deaths in 2013, when 527 people lost their lives on Wisconsin road. That was down from a high of 1,168 in 1972.

Air bags, less drunk driving.

Plus, seat belts, better roads and better cars. The traffic deaths have gone down nationwide despite about one hundred million more people in the country and millions more drivers since the seventies. Almost halved which is remarkable.

As far as younger people go, many times when there is a report of teens or young adults killed in an auto accident, they were thrown from the vehicle. Unfortunately, many young people hate to wear seat belts.
