NET10 cell phone minutes - need to donate
djf

Posted on 08/06/2015 11:26:55 AM PDT by djf

OK. I have somewhat over 5,000 cell phone minutes with my current provider, which is NET10.

I need to donate these minutes. Preferably to a veterans group or soldiers in general because I know they are always looking for minutes.

There was just a blurb on TV about donating airline miles to kids, so I figured I'd ask.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

Help Them Call Home is an interesting one. They take donated minutes so soldiers overseas can call their loved ones. (I found the site on bing)

“google is your best friend”

I found none on google ... after visiting about a dozen ‘googled’ sites.

Maybe not you personally, but FR as a whole tends to be SIRI with real intelligence for these sorts of questions. Google on its best day only approaches artificial intelligence.

Have you tried contacting Net10? Either that, or try contacting some Vets organizations directly?

I don’t think that your minutes are transferrable in most cases..

I don’t know what plan you have, but in my experience these pay as you go phones are pretty strict about their systems and do not generally allow just anyone to use the system unless they know who you are and have credit info on the user. In most cases, excess minutes not used will expire.

I would contact the company, if I were you.

I’ve been using Net 10 for about 10 years, as far as I know you can’t transfer minutes.

They have 2 basic scenarios.

The original $.10 per minute, where you get 200 minutes for a $20 card, etc, and it adds one month to the time you keep your phone number. I was usually using the $30 card, 300 minutes and 2 months. I ended up with over 2 years I could keep my number if I ran out of minutes altogether. Minutes never went away but time to keep the phone did, even if you still had minutes on the phone, the end date came around and your phone died. Had a friend who had 400 minutes plus, time ran out and his phone stopped.

Now I’m using a $25 card, 1000 minutes, the phone number is only good for one month though and you have to get another card, minutes roll over. Mine maxes out at 9999 minutes. No way I can use 1000 minutes in one month...

Only two ways I know of you can transfer minutes.

1. Buy a card and send it to the person you want to or

2. Ship them the phone.

You can get phone cards in various dollar amounts, get one ans send it to the organization you want to donate to. Anyone can use it by punching in the pin number on back, once it’s keyed into a phone it stays in that phone. My sister has bought me phone cards, she’ll call or text and give me the pin number, works fine.

Otherwise, call Net 10 and ask them if it’s possible to do what you want to do. I doubt it, as far as I know once you input the pin number the minutes are all yours.
