Who’s surprised?

Uber will attract people shunned from employment because of arrest / conviction record.

Is this bad?

If not Uber, these people can only become wards of the state, or commit more crimes.

At least they know to have good Facebook rep, and good reviews.

I agree with you. Without question, some Uber drivers will commit crimes, but ought we not take the liberal viewpoint, this gives them a way to support themselves without committing crimes if they did NOT have this source of money.

The story is only notable because Uber claims to run criminal background checks on their drivers. So it raises the question of whether Uber is lying, or incompetent. Personally, I prefer Uber to government controlled taxis, but Uber needs to get their act together or else they will end up forced to join the taxi cartel.
