"sample after sample" shows bacterial concentrations are "highest where there were higher numbers of septic systems in the watershed area,"

Well there's a shocker.

If it weren’t for bacteria, none of us exist.

This study to be followed by an Executive Order banning or at least restricting bowel movements and placing all bowel movements under the control of the EPA!

Correlation does not equal causation.

There are also a lot of larger parcels such as farms with associated livestock, fowl and such in areas where there are a lot of septic systems.

A properly functioning septic tank and drainfield system does not discharge ANY water (directly to streams and ricers

Howard Hughes is very afraid.
Wait, he’s dead.
See how toxic a tiny amount of poop is?

Now, if it were Cecil the Zebra eating lion’s poop it would be healing and sacred.

New expensive septic system rules or mandatory hookup to a town sewer line coming soon to your area.

Here’s how it works, poop in the toilet, flush said toilet, waste goes down the pipe to the septic tank, solids (poop and toilet paper)settle to the bottom of the septic tank and waste water flows out of upper tank pipe to drain field, wastewater in perforated drain pipe leaches into drain rock and is filtered by soil.

If you are have high groundwater then wastewater is not getting filtered before it hits natural groundwater. Presto-bingo, you have contaminated water.

The EPA and state ecology departments will step in sometime in the near future and outlaw all septic disposal systems because the groundwater is consider “waters of the state”. This is in direct violation of the new Clean Water Act rules.

The grass is greenest and thickest over the area of my septic tank leeching field. No, I do not have my vegetable garden there!

I used to work for a guy that was instrumental in the development of the aerobic septic tanks. As part of his sell, he dipped a glass in the field line and drank it.

He was killed riding a motorcycle by a hit and run in his ‘90’s.

First, I don’t know if this study accounts for the possibility of failed tanks and/or people who have chosen to hard pipe directly to the creek, rather than fix a clogged system. Other possibilities include overloaded systems because all the adult kids and the grandkids have moved back home and into the basement in Barry’s economy. So the study itself could just be a bunch of poo-poo.

Second, I see this as part of a large push against rural living. If septic tanks are declared ineffective, it will become virtually impossible to build a new house outside of where sanitary sewer pipes run (ie the city).

By happenstance, one of my additional duties at my job is reviewing the occasional septic system plan. Septic tanks do not work by magic or voo-doo. There are some basic principals at work. There is no reason it shouldn’t work just as well as the city’s treatment plant.

When the man comes and pumps out my two 500 gallon tanks, where does he dump the waste? One guy told me his company bought a very expensive license that lets him dump the crap in a field.

No, shiite, Sherlock! It's not like there's some magical poo force that keeps it all nice and tidy inside the hole. It's going to leach out into the soil and rains encourage more spreading.

This article is nonsense.

Bacteria are what a septic tank uses to break down sewage.

Of course there are bacteria!

That proves that they are working.

Hum, Let's see my septic tank is 30 ft from the top of my well. My well is 180' ft deep and cased down to 60 feet with the pump at about 165' down. I had my well water professionally tested at an independent facility and had no issues. It's likely more pure than most utility purified systems. It can pour down rain for days and is still crystal clear.

It's common sense though that so much land can only handle so many septic tanks in a given area. Developers are building large subdivisions in areas where a utility sewage system has not been put in place. Perhaps Mr Grant or Franklin helps assist in the perk test most states require?

Most septic tanks will work if properly maintained including using Yeast treatments sold for septic systems to keep the talk functioning properly by destroying it's own waste.

"...bacterial concentrations are "highest where there were higher numbers of septic systems in the watershed area,..."

Fight urban sprawl. Abolish regulations in rural areas and build away from cities.
