Norway Makes World Record Ice Cream Cone

Norwegian ice-cream maker, Hennig Olsen, unveiled the world’s largest-ever ice cream cone in front of 9,000 people at the start of Sunday’s Tall Ships Race at Kristianstad.
The ice cream, which measured 3.08 metres from top to botton, was flown over Kristianstad quay hanging from a helicopter and placed in front of an expectant crowd of around 9,000 people.
Glen Pollard from the Guinness Book of Records had made the trip to Kristianstad and confirmed that the Norwegian ice cream cone was larger than that of the previous record-holders, Mirco Della Vecchia and Andrea Andrighetti of Italy who made their ice-cream in 2011.
The ice-cream consisted of 40 litres of homemade lingonberry jam and 1,080 litres of vanilla ice cream and 60 litres of chocolate - the biscuit cone alone weighed a whopping 75 kg.
Hennig Olsen’s sales manager,Trond Wøien, said that the idea for the record attempt came in January.
“Then it took us about four months to actually make the ice cream.”

So they had four months to think about it, and realize that this was an expensive and pointless thing to do. And yet they went through with it anyway. If you are going to do something this dumb, at least don't give yourself time to make it a rational choice. The former can be blamed on alcohol. The latter, can't.

The article doesn’t mention the ultimate fate of the ice cream. It doesn’t say the crowd got to eat it. Like I said, I hope someone did.

It is usually what happens with "world's biggest". Can't remember off hand any time when the food got tossed.
In this case the company got some publicity, the festive got a draw, people got ice cream and I got a new flavor to try out in my ice cream maker. All I have to do is find some lingonberry jam.
