I think theres something oddmaybe even phony or at least self-deludingabout people going berserk over that dentist shooting a lion. Even many of the animal-welfare activists themselves are quick to note that while Twitter heaps death threats on the dentist, chickens and cows go on dying by the millions.
I am not so inhuman in my utilitarianism as to think peoples outrage and empathy should be turned into an abstract, fine-tuned calculator, divorced from the spectacles immediately before their eyes, but sometimes the contrast between their moments of empathy and their moments of callousness is jarring and strange.
Take Jimmy Kimmel, for instance. He weptwept!on national TV while pleading for an explanation for the cruelty shown by the lion-hunter. Beautiful, you might say. But waitisnt this the same Jimmy Kimmel who encourages viewers to take candy from children and then send in videos of the kids crying about it? This is Jimmy Kimmel the co-creator of Crank Yankers, in which innocent people suffered numerous bizarre and sometimes unsettling prank calls, right? The guy who co-created The Man Show, for crying out loud?
Does Kimmels former Man Show co-host Adam Carolla, author of the anti-p.c. warning In Fifty Years Well All Be Chicks, know about this weeping incident?
But then, people are suckers for moments of compassion from otherwise callous individuals.

To think he used to host “The Man Show.”
The Fox is turning over in his grave.
I have been out of touch for a couple of weeks, and the world has changed. Things are moving downhill so fast these days.
In movies a gunman can kill human after human after human. BUT if a bullet ricochets and hits a dog’s paw and it whelps the whole audience lets out a moan.
Kimmel wept...
Because I have yet to read more than a headline or summary regarding "Cecil," can anyone tell me if any such story has mentioned, perhaps in passing, the never-ending nightmare of daily life in Zimbabwe, if only to spotlight, perhaps, how the economic cluster-Fukushima thereabouts may have contributed to this "good cry?"
That’s just it. People are so jaded now by seeing actors supposedly shot & “killed” in a movie; only to see those same actors appearing in upcoming movies alive & well. So, death is not “real” to them now. Everything is “make-believe”.
