No, but it does bring up a comparison with the cost of college majors versus starting out with that $100k-$200k as starting capital for someone in their early 20s.
Plumping school?
We Americans don’t need any school for that!
This can’t be right. Where’s basket weaving and navel lint studies?
In the first house I ever bought, back in 1981, they got that left/hot, right/cold, rule backwards in the main bathroom. It was an overall indicator of the care taken by the tract home builder.
You at least need enough school for rule 1 and health class for rule 2.
I generally agree, but there is a caveat that merit is not the only factor at play.
1. If you don’t let me in school- you’re a racist
2. If you don’t graduate me in my field of study- you’re a racist
3. If you don’t hire me- you’re a racist
4. If you don’t promote me- you’re a racist
Agreed that the field is wide open for excellence to build a business. I had a plumber like you describe for the house I lived in from 1981-2009. I really miss him and his service but he was aging out of the business so I was going to have to find another guy anyway.
Don’t do #2, so to speak, and think I could figure #1 out.
Here in Tulsa OK, one of the local Congressmen owns a large plumbing company with multiple plumbers and vans on the street. He still appears in his TV plumbing commercials, too.
RE: One word, Plastics!
That is soooo... 1960’s.
The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after were gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, cause thats what it does. Its a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if its true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesnt share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didnt know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, Why are we here?
Plastic ***hole.

WILL NOT GRADUATE.
But the idea that if you pick the "right major" that you have a ticket to riches is ridiculous.
Yes. Picking the "major" is one thing. Completing the program is quite another. I'm sure you learned that in med school.
Not really, Chemical engineering is the second highest one on the list.
This major, and biological engineering are the two majors my 4.0 GPA , 17 year old son is considering.
My problem:
MIT $50k/year
Worchester Polytech $43K/year
UNH $27K/year
Don’t sneer at “State U” or “University of State” ...
Radar.
MST3K fans should get a laugh.
Why not try a State University?
+1
My granddaughter just graduated w/ a degree in chemical engineering from U. of Colo.
She has been hired as an analyst. Nice
Guess they don’t count “grant money”
