Carbon tax = tax on carbon-based fuels = limits on the use of carbon-based fuels = cutting permissible forms of energy by some 90%
Automobiles cannot yet run on any kind of atomic reactor, and the long-term storage of electricity is still a very expensive proposition, in terms of reliable AND inexpensive batteries. So most of the energy we use on a daily basis is reliant in some way on carbon-based “fossil” fuels. Even natural gas, composed mostly of methane, is a carbon-based fuel, and still subject to this pernicious tax.
