Good article.

Just saying. The link to George H W Bush at #15 starts the big-wigs. Most of our most recent presidents, are not on the richest list.

I was a bit surprized who was the biggest president financially.

By comparison, Donald Trump, has more than five times as much, as any previous president. But the number one president was nevertheless quite formidable.

I looked through the list (painful website design)

I figured it was him. But I allowed for it to be another.

Question: what about inflation? Were the dollars normalized?

I haven’t looked yet, but your question “who was the richest” should include a qualifier, as to “before or after they held office?”

I thought the Clinton “Foundation”s worth is now in the billions. I understand that technically it isn’t his, but in practicality doesn’t that make him the richest?

Some observations. Many of the less well to do Presidents died in office, thus did not have a chance to make money in their post-presidential years. Grant died nearly broke, he did have a large advance for his memoirs and other help. However he did acquire considerable wealth in business with his son. Unfortunately for Grant, the firm Ward & Grant was a 19th Century Lehman Brothers, which went down in flames before his death. No bailouts back then.
