Jason Pierre-Paul, the star defensive end for the NFLs New York Giants, had one of his fingers amputated on Wednesday, ESPN reported.
Specifically, doctors removed Pierre-Pauls right index finger, which was injured in a fireworks accident on Saturday, according to ESPNs Adam Schefter.
Pierre-Pauls injury and surgery, which remain shrouded in mystery, have become one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason and one of the most high-profile patient data breaches in years.
The news of JPPs injury first broke on Sunday when a hospital worker reportedly told his friend, who then posted the news to Twitter. Rumors circulated online for several hours before ESPN and other outlets were able to confirm that Pierre-Paul had indeed mangled his hand.
(Although ESPNs Schefter played down the injury at the time, saying that the damage to Pierre-Pauls hand was not as serious as originally feared. It now seems likely that Schefter was misled.)

Was it really from a fireworks accident, or was Jason-Pierre
using that same ‘exercise machine’ Harry Reid was using?
Can't get through a day without violating the Feudal lord's laws.
Whoever leaked this is facing 5 years in federal prison and $100k in fines, plus lifetime ban from healthcare licensing.
ESPN is not bound by HPPA. The hospital worker is.
No, that only applies to medical personnel. Whoever released the info could be in trouble. But regular people can talk all day about it.
Cops also.
EMS,,, not so much.
Bad finger to lose.
Pecos Bill used to shoot off the right index finger of bad guys.
They certainly had a hand in it...
It’s those knuckleheads at espn.
Bad finger to lose.

Yep! No one wants to lose their booger hook!
He’s not a receiver, but a D-Lineman, so loss of the digit should not hurt his pass rushing.
True, but when Pierre-Paul shows up at training camp, it's really hard to keep it a "secret" that he's missing a finger.
Plus NFL teams HAVE to issue "injury reports" to the League and the public.
I think it's for strategy reasons,(and gamblers!), so the opposing teams can set up their game plans accordingly.
If they know Aaron Rodgers has a R hamstring strain, he'll be served up the next game with a barrage of defenders coming at his injured side.
We should do that today. 3 crimes with a gun and you lose your dominant index finger.
Sounds good to me.
Pecos Bill was an early favorite of mine. I read all his books at the school library.
No, the hospital worker did the violation. Once the news was tweeted, ESPN was just repotting the news.
If I was in charge of ESPN I would fire the works...
It’s only a crime if “the secretary shall determine” when it comes to health care.
That wouldn’t help to defuse the situation.
Most certainly the source for the document that ESPN released violated HIPAA, and ESPN by extension.<br<But they are liberals and will skate on law breaking.
