Some discussion of the Narnia film series. Of course, one problem is - will there BE any more films. Rumours have circulated for a long time about a new Narnia film, but nothing has eventuated yet.

NARNIA PING LIST Please ping me to any threads about Narnia, and the works of C.S. Lewis. I maintain the Narnia list.

I doubt if there will be.

Hollywood will not do any more films with Christian overtones. The Tolkien cycle has ended. "Left Behind" bombed in the theaters. And as the actors in Narnia grow up, popular demand for them will fade as well.

In 2012, Walden Media, which co-produced the first two films with Disney and “Dawn Treader” with 20th Century Fox, lost the film rights, reportedly triggering a seven-year moratorium on the C. S. Lewis Company undertaking future productions without Walden. But in 2013 it was announced that the C. S. Lewis Company was partnering with producer Mark Gordon (“2012,” “The Messenger”) to adapt “The Silver Chair.” The projected year of release, according to IMDb, is 2016. But after a five-year hiatus, casting is an issue.

[Christian viewers in particular are concerned if production changes mean the books’ spiritual themes will make it on to the big screen.]

Why do Christians always have to be the tail and not the head. Surely some Christian film producer can take this on and retain the true message of Narnia.

I’d like to see Perleandra, in which the Eve of Venus is a purple woman who lives on the ocean. Prof. Ransom (JRR Tolkien) is sent there to save her from temptation by the devil.

Not a fan of his fiction but of his other writings. Favorite CS quotes...

“A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.” ― C.S. Lewis

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis makes this statement, "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic--on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg--or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us."

The first movie was amazing, the second was ok. The third movie was a travesty. I don’t think I can bear it if they ruin The Magician’s Nephew.
