Confederate flag cake, no. ISIS flag cake, yes. Wal-Mart apologizes after YouTube flap(worked there)

A Wal-Mart store in Slidell refused a request to decorate a cake with a design featuring a Confederate flag, but agreed to decorate a cake featuring the flag of the Islamic State terrorist group, or ISIS, a man says in a video posted to YouTube.

Wal-Mart has apologized for selling the cake, explaining that the employee who handled the order did not recognize it as the ISIS flag. The corporation, a spokesman said, does not support ISIS.

The YouTube video, posted Friday (June 26) by a man identified as Chuck Netzhammer, shows a man sitting on a motorcycle unfurl a Confederate flag bearing the words "HERITAGE NOT HATE'' and explain that he sought to have that image on a cake he wanted to purchase from the Wal-Mart store on Natchez Drive in Slidell. He said the store refused, but that when he returned later with a new order, employees in the bakery offered no objections to decorating a cake with the ISIS flag.

"All right, Wal-Mart,'' he says, "you got some explaining to do.''

In a comment Netzhammer posted beneath the video he said he sent a complaint to the company's ethics department criticizing the store for selling an image of the ISIS flag, in addition to some "offensive Rap music ...''

"But you can't buy a beloved children's toy car with an Confederate flag on the roof?''

I am posting this because I used to work at this Walmart and I still know a lot of people that still do. This Walmart is by no means an ISIS supporter. Having worked there I can tell you that I'm sure whoever made the cake was CLUELESS

Why don’t all of these bakeries simply say, “We’re a bakery. We bake and frost your cake. If you want custom decorations, please go to a decorator or do it yourself.”

Could save a lot of trauma.

Well, what does that say about the average Walmart employee or its shoppers in general? Not a slam against anyone..I shop Walmart, but do not go there for intellectual or political edification.

Some of my classmates moved to Slidell from New Orleans after Katrina. That is why I tend to agree with you. However, I still hate Wal-Mart for their anti-Confederate flag issue.

Not much. I did several jobs there and I had my few friends I could actually have a relevant conversation with there. When I was unloading trucks there were 3 guys who quit or got fired. After they left I had no one left to talk to while unloading trucks and stocking shelves.

Wal-mart has become an embarrassing joke. That’s what happens when you allow your corporate policies to turn you into a leftist whore. I do not love using that term (better than some alternatives) but there is really no clearer way to say it.

I am sure each Walmart is different and its employees a reflection of their regional location. But policies such as this one come from corporate. After daddy died, the kiddies have no rudder. They are trying to stick to daddy’s policies without understanding them from within. Nothing ever works that way.

Someone needs to ask the New Orleans Walmart if they will decorate a cake with a Pan-African flag; and will they deliver it to the Howard Johnson’s hotel?

Who provided the design, the customer or a Walmart employee?

A comment on a local article about this claims the man should apologize to Walmart for setting them up.

I pointed out this is what happens when knee jerk political correctness runs amok

WalMart's only saving grace was how they stood up to the union thugs as well as refusing to capitulate to the Jew-hating BDS movement and, at least as of now continue to carry Soda Stream and Sabra products. But with this latest stunt, I'm seriously considering avoiding them. Besides, more and more, their prices can be beat.
