More than 50 percent of children and adolescents in the U.S., ages 6 to 19, are not drinking enough water, says a new study from T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that boys were more susceptible to dehydration and that black children were more likely to be dehydrated than whites.

According to the researchers, the results of the study are a little concerning because not enough drinking of water can affect a child's physical and mental health.

If you drink alcohol in place of water you end up looking like Mrs. Clinton.

Water intoxication, also known as water poisoning or dilutional hyponatremia, is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside safe limits by overhydration.
Under normal circumstances, accidentally consuming too much water is exceptionally rare. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests in which individuals attempt to consume large amounts of water, or from long bouts of exercise during which excessive amounts of fluid were consumed.[1] Moreover, water cure, a method of torture in which the victim is forced to consume excessive amounts of water, can cause water intoxication.
Water, just like any other substance, can be considered a poison when over-consumed in a specific period of time. Water intoxication mostly occurs when water is being consumed in a high quantity without giving the body the proper nutrients it needs to be healthy, but even healthy people can get water intoxication.[2]
Excess of body water may also be a result of a medical condition or improper treatment; see “hyponatremia” for some examples. Water is considered the least toxic chemical compound, with an LD50 of over 90 ml/kg in rats.[3]

Good golly man. You’d have to drink over a gallon and a half in less than an hour to over hydrate like that and be largely inactive. When we were in the desert (USMC) we’d have the new guys drink at least a quarter of a gallon before doing anything and do that at least four times a day. Of course they were working and it was 120.

The article is correct but comes up short. It is not just children, most PEOPLE are dehydrated especially when you consider all the diuretics they drink. General rule, for every ounce of diuretic (tea, coffee, soda, any caffeine, alcohol, etc.) you should drink an ounce of water.

Kids will drink water when they’re thirsty. Stop trying to force it on them.

High time we rise up as one people and say ENOUGH. Enough racism and hypocrisy from the white ruling class whose children have enough water to drink while the people of color who BUILT this country - deprived of an education, deprived even of literacy and non-incarcerated patrimony - slink from 7-11 to 7-11 scrounging for slurpees, skittles and the occasional “liquid” crystal display wide screen TV. ENOUGH I say from the Jewish puppeteers, the Republican slave-owners, and the Washington bureaucrats who do nothing but give free things - but no water! - to America’s thirsty class.

When I was a kid during football practice we could not drink water until practice was over. We were told it would give us cramps. This was in August.

I can't explain the difference between the different races in the study, but many kids today would never think to get a glass of water from the tap. Bottled water is the only thing they think of as drinking water (their parents too.)

We have a Brita pitcher but if I am thirsty, especially when it is hot out, I run cold water from the tap and drink several glasses. Always the right temperature :)

OMFG, that's it.

Fatigue has officially set in. Right there at that sentence.

I am no longer tolerant; I've had my fill.

These kids aren’t stupid. Water and children’s dairy products ....

Pure distilled spring water or grain alcohol is all I drink.
Have you ever seen a Democrat drink a glass of tap water?

Vodka is all those comrades will drink. Fluoride-free alcohol.

Yes. I read an article some years ago exposing the "lack of hydration" scam. Like people have to be reminded to drink water when they're thirsty. There's about a zero chance that appreciable numbers of people in this country are not being properly hydrated.

Some people think it was a scam generated by all the businesses that have popped up in the last thirty years selling bottled water.
