Seems these days everybody worries way too much about germs and allergies and such. Somehow I made it through 52 years of life without ever having an illness outside of a common cold and never been admitted to a hospital. All this without taking all these stupid precautions.
In fact, exposure to germs probably keeps me healthy as I'm always giving my immune system a good workout and when it comes to germs - my immune system kicks butt.
As they say, use it or lose it.
Easy
People with sensitive skin probably should.
If your skin is less sensitive it probably doesn’t matter.
I have rarely washed new clothes for myself, either. I have found it’s a rare piece of clothing that has that nice ‘crisp’ look after it’s washed. (Is there something called ‘sizing’ in the clothing - )?
And I’ll wear the garment over and over and etc. - !
Ring around the collar - ? I take a nubby, wet terry cloth and rub away the ‘ring.’
Hilarious when one thinks about trying the garments on in the store, anyway - do some have the 3 second rule - ???!!
Interesting, the various habits we have - - -
I once rented a tux which had a used Band-Aid stuck to the upper inner pant leg. Yuck!
Most of my clothes are second hand so on the rare occasion that I get actual new clothes, I can’t bring myself to wash them before wearing. I like having a day in clothes that are neither faded nor stretched out one bit.
That small and infrequent pleasure is worth the risk to me.
I love the smell of brand new clothes in the morning.
I like ‘em best with a spankin’ new tinfoil hat!!
I remember leaving a store wearing the new jeans Id bought there..
the DYE wasnt particulary FAST....until I washed them..
It didnt leave any dense lasting stains on my skin..but it did “shed” some color..
My bootcamp company commander told me “if it aint washed, it ain’t clean”. Snce then every new scrap of clothing gets washed before wearing.
I wish you could still get real denim like the 501s from back in the 60’s 70’s
BS. I’ve never had a problem. Neither has my young son, raised in the generation of total paranoia. Complete with my MIL’s paranoia about everything including this non-issue.
If one has bad skin of whatever stripe, it might be advisable. Otherwise, more hyperactive paranoia.
Jack Reacher never has a problem, Tom Cruise would probably get jock itch.
HaHa.....true
Why would anyone not wash clothing before wearing it. Go ahead and take a chance, the rash will only last a few weeks.
I’m not allergic to anything but once on opening a new plastic package of socks I got a whiff of some fumes that were strong enough to make me dizzy. So I figured that sometimes new textiles are treated with chemicals that may not be super healthy. But I still don’t obsessively wash new clothes.
What you so politely described we just call “that other lady’s beaver stink”.
Vaginas are vectors for disease; it’s a whole nother ballgame for chicks.
Aside from chemicals, etc. is anyone ever concerned about items that were previously purchased, worn and returned to the store?
I remember years ago getting Levi 501s that were as stiff as boards and bled blue ink (Indigo?) the first time or two they were washed.
I remember ruining a lot of clothes before I learned to wash them alone.
Yes. They were a lot like Siamese fighting fish or that guy who drank alone, all by himself.
