Everyone not familiar with the French Revolution should knowledge up on it. The reign of terror started out innocently as a noble leftist utopian fantasy targeting the inequities of the French people. Christians including clergy were targeted and murdered by the thousands.

Good podcast ongoing right now on this very subject called "Revolutions".

Yup. They disposed that bad old King (who was perhaps clueless but not evil) and replaced him with an out of control power hungry clique that operated as a dictatorship. They executed their political enemies by the thousands, and eventually they were replaced by ... an emperor. Yeah that worked out real well.

Poor Louis XVI, he should have been canonized.

It’s not his fault, he had an elder brother that predeceased him. Plus nobody would have expected his father would have died.

He was simply not up to the job to impose a Constitutional monarchy (which he actually supported).

Unfortunately the spirit of Jacobinism is well alive in America today. Brace yourselves.
