Snappers make the best eating if you know how to fix them. I was told they have 7 different kinds of meat. Friend had a big one in his pond and kept his gun by the door. Finally got him, he sank to the bottom of the pond, floated up 3 days later and weighted in a 25 pounds...daughter had a snapper in her pond and it took down one of her ducks...the other 2 wouldn’t go near the pond after that.

When my grandson and his mother moved out of my condo, I inherited George and Gracie, two land tortoises. They had babies three years ago, some of which survived to be given away at school. I feed them when I’m there and am moving them this summer to a farm. Tame little things. Knock on the door for banana bits some days. They live on insects and greenery. When the grasshoppers arrive, they have a big time.

A big snapping turtle took up residence at the pond we swam in on my grandpa's farm. We asked him if the turtle would bite. The only thing he would say was, "He hasn't yet."

I don't think we swam there much that summer.
