(This is about using Windows 10 on tiny embedded hardware for Internet-connected devices.)

Windows 10 IoT Insider Preview was released yesterday (Apr 29) for various low cost hardware types - Raspberry Pi 2, MinnowBoard MAX, Intel Galileo and Arduino. It's available from here https://ms-iot.github.io/content/GetStarted.htm

In this blog post I'll be getting the IoT release up and running on one of those devices, the Raspberry Pi 2.

(Article goes into detailed steps of how to load Windows 10 onto a Raspberry Pi 2.)

This is one for the embedded hardware hackers (I'm proud to say I've been one since the mid-1970's).

You know who you are. :-)

Raspberry Pi (and other embedded hardware platforms) ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to tacticalogic for the heads up!!

They have been doing interesting things with their HoloLens and a Raspberry Pi Robot:

Microsoft used this adorable robot to show off new HoloLens features

I suggested earlier (deleted by admin) that MS might find some of the 1B devices at the Salvation Army, where many folks take their old machines.

Hope I don't get zotted.

i have a raspberry pi 2 (the new one) running kodi (xbmc in a previous life), and it is truly fantastic piece of kit. this is my home theatre kit for an upstairs room, points to a server running ubuntu... amazing what you can do now quite easily and cheaply...

would be interested to see this microsoft option also...

They've also got it working on Android phones.

Raspberry Pi, for the win! This is exciting. I’ve tried to get a Windows OS to run on a Pi, and the best I could do was DOS 6.22 with a lot of mods.

So far mine has only been running the "stock" Raspbian Linux distro, but that's been impressive in its own right. I'd really like to see it kick up its heels a bit, but I think I'll have to spring for the newer hardware version first. At $35 bucks that's not a big block.

I am in the dark about why your Salvation Army commet would have been removed. Re-use of old machines is perfectly acceptable and if Win10 can be made to run on little things like the Raspberry Pi, then it could certainly run on an older cast-off PC.

Huh. The ways of the Mods are not scrutable by us mere mortals.

I use mine with RaspBMC (now Kodi) for home theater. It’s wonderful.

BTW speaking of awesome, great FR profile page. But... what is the “RCA Manufacturing Co.”? it’s not RCA the Radio Corporation of America... ???
